Covington Holmes 70 Scott County 65

Featured Replies

I missed it live but when I opened up the sports page today and saw that it was almost like I was there. Great shot and awesome dunk by a "MONSTER" quoting Billy Hicks.

I haven't heard from many SC fans on this thread except for Rainman. Where are all the Card Fans?

I saw that as well.

"Pittman," said Scott County coach Billy Hicks, "was a monster."

BTW, I'm still very interested in hearing Fastbreak's take on the game.

Very rarely in a high school game do you see a)a tomahawk and b) any dunk that goes STRAIGHT down.

It brought EVERYONE to their feet. The SC faithful around me were talking about how scary Pittman is going to be over the next two years.

Even got Billy G to give a nice round of applause. :sssh:

How good would Scott Co be without the multiple transfers?

How good would Scott Co be without the multiple transfers?

I think I posed that question in another thread. They have very good feeder systems and some good "homegrown" talent coming up but as of right now I dont see much outside of the transfers. Phares is probably the most solid and is very good.

That picture doesn't even do the dunk justice. The picture makes it look like he barely cleared the rim. He was so high it was like he just throwing it through the basket. The ball had to be retrieved from the stands after the dunk.

Also did anyone notice how long Arrez Henderson was spending time with Billy G???? They were together for most of the 2nd half. Arrez would look good coming off the bench in blue.

To quote the Lexington Herald:

If it hadn't been for Ge-Lawn Guyn, Scott County would have lost by a bunch...

Euton, Jackson, and Flannery combined for 22 points I believe but many came at the end when SC started pressing which led to easy baskets for them. None were overly impressive and all three struggled with Holmes athleticism and length.

Guyn is by far the best player on their team. I was very impressed with him.

I did notice Billy G and Arrez. He seems to be a pretty approachable guy in the few occations I have seen him out at games.

I think it is going to be very interesting to see if more teams put full court pressure on Holmes. It is kind of a catch 22. You don't want to run up and down with a more athletic team, but if they do not handle pressure well, press !! I am sure Henley will be working with the Bulldogs on the press breaker at practice, but it will be interesting how opposing coaches attack them defensively in the future.

The press got to Holmes. Some of it was due to 23 was on the bench for an extended time with what appeared to be a cramp. When he returned the press was less bothersome.

I'd have to respectfully disagree. Guyn is their best player and most solid IMO. He does it all. Rebound, Score, and defend. Holmes proved last night that if you put someone on Phares who is the same size as him that has athleticism and can handle the rock, he is very vulnerable and prone to foul trouble.

Manning was also very impressive though and is pretty big for a freshman. He will be a stud for SC throughout the next 4 years. I don't understand why Hicks doesn't start him over either Ford or Euton. He brings much more athleticism and SC is a much better team with him on the floor.

Agree. The press didn't really start bothering Holmes until JJ went to the bench with a cramp. While he was out, it forced Riley to throw the ball in which meant their best ball handler wouldn't have the ball right away.

Also, Arnold for Holmes doesn't need to be handling the ball for Holmes in pressure situations. He is a very good player but had probably 5 turnovers that led to baskets for SC.

From kentucky.com:

No. 2 Holmes beats top ranked Scott Co.

Scott Co. falls behind by 17 early

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS — Scott County was a clear-cut No. 1 in the pre-season boys' basketball ratings, but No. 2 Holmes showed Sunday night that the Cardinals' roost at the top isn't secure.

Sparked by the three-point shooting of JaMel Riley and a hustling defense, Holmes beat Scott County 70-65...

......Was this a statement game?

"Yes," said Holmes junior star Ricardo Johnson. "It means we're No. 1 now."

Bryan Station might quibble with that.

You must be pretty happy. I'm sitting there last night, watching the celeb game. Feeling all warm and fuzzy after the Birds take apart the big rival. Then the Holmes games starts and that warm and fuzzy feeling was more like a knot in my stomach. Holy schnikies those guys are good:thumb::thumb:

There were some "big" celebrities playing!

I'm more happy for a certain member of the Holmes coaching staff than anything.

Trust me I too was feeling all warm and fuzzy after OUR Birds took down CCH the way they did. The Holmes win was just the icing on the cake.

As to your last sentence...I think a lot of people were finally able to realize this from downstate who had a chance to see Holmes in person. :thumb:

Listened to the last quarter, Holmes in my book is the best team today in the state and like someone previously stated polls are for fans and writers to talk and argue about until tournament time. But being a UK fan and agreeing with so many others on here, Euton is good ballplayer, but not the type of ballplayer that BCG is trying to load up on. I have seen him play once, and he looks like he is running in sand. Also, being he verbally committed and there is no signed LOI yet, it will be very easy to offer one of those preferred walk-on positions and pull the scholly offer. This particular scholarship should go to Pittman or even maybe Henderson, since BCG was talking with him at the game. Should be a great season of high school hoops no matter who is number one right now.:thumb:

This is not about the game but can someone tell me who the dunking santa was last night at the end of the celebrity game. The high pitched woman doing the talking probably said but I couldn't understand her at all.
