Elliott County is better than they get credit for, I don't care who they've played.

 

By me saying they are #4 in the state is giving them credit. I'm sure they have a very good team, I'd just like to see how they would do playing some of the tougher schedules that the other teams play. They are definately the top team in their region but they need to play and beat the top teams in other regions if they are going to make people believers.

I really like Guyn but did he share the ball tonight? He is Mr. Offense, but SC has inside strength and the guards will need to learn to feed the post if they haven't done so. I didn't go to the game so please set me straight if I'm wrong. Congrats to Holmes on a significant win.

 

This kid shared the ball and was definitely looking to pass first. He is unbelievable defensively. I'd say he was the most prepared for the next level on the floor tonight.

The new arena is very nice, but I will make sure I stuff myself full next time I go, $4.00 hotdogs seems a bit much imo.

EtaRho must be in celebration mode. Congrats to the Dawgs. I really think there are 8-10 teams with a legit shot to win state this year. Holmes is definitely in that group.

You just never know what will happen, in a Kentucky High School basketball game. Two very good teams, that will have to be contended with.

From what i saw, 14 for SC is an absolute stud, he scored at will tonight. Holmes played very good D, and SC didn't have many open looks. Holmes had some trouble getting the ball past 1/2 court when SC pressed. IMO the score doesn't show how not close this game was. If SC didn't get 3 turn-overs in a row at the end, holmes would have won by 15.

 

Congrats to Holmes and Coach Henly.

The game was never in doubt. It was just a matter of how close SC would make it.

Euton - I cannot believe Billy G gave this kid a scholly, especially so early. I think he looks worse this year for Scott than at Rose Hill last year. Maybe it is taking him longer to go into his new role at Scott.

 

Guyn has definitely made progress over the last season or two. Still think he is a mid-major at best. That is if he wants to actually get on the floor in college.

 

I love Hicks personally, and he is a great person off the court. Does a lot of good stuff nobody knows about. But I do think he is one of the "whinniest" HS coaches out there. (only one worse is Feldhaus at MC).

 

Interesting turn of events here in this early season. Bryan Station beats Holmes. Henry Clay (although very young) almost has Bryan Station beat, but they pull it out in the end. And know Holmes beats Scott County. Gotta say, Bryan Station is the surprise of this early season. From the teams I have seen in person, they would get my #1 vote right now.

 

Scott County has not been impressive so far. Maybe it is just integrating some many transfer players into their "system". And it is a system at Scott County. So don't count the cards out, as I think they will be awesome by end of the season.

 

A ton of great young talent out there. Going to be a fun year.

You haven't seen the jeffersontown coach yet I see. He starts on the officials before the game even starts!

We take our shots at Coach Hicks because he's an easy target. Good to hear he's a good dude. As a CCH fan and Coach L supporter, I can appreciate where fans might think a coach is animated or even whiny and worker of the officials.

Seriously wow that seems unlike Richie! Congrats to Holmes! Noticed Pittman and Johnson played well but Congratulations to Jamel Riley nice game! I also noticed Tamron Manning had a nice game although in a losing effort. Guyn did what I have expected of him! Seems like Scott County needs to come together as a team and quit relying on all that talent.

Just got in from the game, and wow, what a game it was. Honestly wasn't as close as the score might indicate though. Holmes led by double digits the whole game up until around 4 minutes left and then SC started pressing which got the lead down to 5. Was never closer than that and Holmes led by as many as 17 at one point.

 

I don't think there's any question about who the #1 team in the state is, if SC is as good as some on here thought and predicted. Holmes dominated the boards, were quicker, and much more athletic than SC.

 

Riley proved he is one of the best guards in the state with his performance tonight. 20 points on 5/6 shooting from behind the arc. This isn't anything new. The kid has missed less than 5 shots ALL SEASON. The few SC fans I was sitting by told me how impressed they were with the way he could shoot and handle the ball.

 

Pittman was HANDS DOWN the best big man on the floor. Both Euton and Phares struggled with his length and athleticism. Neither of them could jump with him and they were completely outmatched on the boards. He played like a man down low and the highlight of the game came on his 4th quarter tomahawk one handed jam which even got a few "oohhh's and ahhhhh's" out of the SC faithful.

 

Holmes really needs to work on handling the press though. SC did a great job and forced many turnovers, leading to easy buckets to keep Holmes from running away with the game.

 

Give credit to Coach Henley. He had a great game plan. He wanted to take the ball to the rim and be aggressive early and his players executed well, which led to Phares having 3 fouls at halftime and forcing him to watch from the bench.

 

Ge'Lawn Guyn is hands down the best player on SC's team and IMO was one of the top 2 players on the court. He benefitted from having a smaller Riley guard him, but he got to the rim when he wanted and wouldn't miss. I was also VERY impressed with Manning. SC was much better with him on the floor. Kid is going to be a player and would be starting on my team over Ford if I were the coach.

 

Euton and Phares might be nice to have offensively, but IMO they are defensive liabilities to SC. Neither are quick enough to guard someone their own size who is quick and athletic. (Pittman/R. Johnson)

 

Speaking of R. Johnson, I wasn't too thrilled with his play tonight. He looked good at times but also had a lot more turnovers than usual and didn't play smart basketball which led to him being in foul trouble much of the game.

 

Great atmosphere for a high school game though. I also had the pleasure of meeting some very nice SC folks and had some great discussions with them throughout the game. Hope to see you guys at Rupp in March!
