I think you mean Riley and sure he only had 1 assist, but he also had 20 points. How is that not generating points from the PG position? R. Johnson actually ran the point more than Riley last night, which was the reason he had more assists. (4)

 

As far as defense goes, Riley is a very good defender, but Guyn is just that good. It's not like he had wide open shots. Riley was right there with him. No other 6' PG in the state is going to stop Guyn if he tries to take over a game like he did last night.

 

Riley is HANDS DOWN the best PG in NKY and one of the top 5-10 in the state.

 

This is something most Holmes fans knew going into the season. Riley is a pure point gaurd, and he also has great on the ball defense. He was just over matched by the bigger, stronger Guyn. People will continue to see him improve as the year goes on. He has only started a handful of games for Holmes. [iMO] By the end of the year he will show he is a top 5 pg in the state, and clearly the best in the 9th.

Let's not get carried away again...........not All the best players in the ninth have HOLMES across their chest ! Silly speculation at best. Let's stick to real facts.......on that end Holmes is the real deal. My simple take:

 

HOLMES: Pittman was a presence...took SC big men out of their game early/often. Thought Ricardo played well in streaks, but JJ was the best Johnson last night as he contributed in all facets and the press did hurt them in his absence (depth for Holmes is another discussion) Riley was outstanding, very impressed with shot and composure, showed some leadership that will be important to this team. Overall, great execution early, clearly the quicker team most of the night, definitely proved they have enough to contend for the title.

Henley - love his calmness and way he handles these kids, seems to be a perfect fit and is developing a great program.

 

SCOTT CO. - Euton is better than he played in this game, he and Phares got taken out of their style of play and didn't adjust. (have seen Euton play alot, not UK/SEC caliber) Jackson is a great talent but continues to not rise-up, really think there is more to offer. Gulyn was clearly the the best player on SC, liked his shot, hops, hustle. Flannery should have stayed North, nice player but seems like they are trying to find time for him on the floor, fit better at Boone. SC is a talented squad with some depth. Not quite as good as hyped, but don't think this game makes them less of a contender....we may have seen one/both state finalist in this one!

Great talent all over the floor.....very entertaining game in a wonderful facility....nice event !

I feel Highlands and Ryle are both more physical on defense which could give Holmes problems. Boone doesn't have an inside game either like either of those two teams which will hurt them against Holmes.

 

On the flip-side, Ryle could have some speed issues. Of course, who won't against Holmes.

I'm really struggling to find a scenario in which any 9th team beats Holmes. I know on any given night, and I do believe that. Maybe depth is on someone elses side. Seemed Holmes only went 7 deep last night.

For those of you who know the Holmes players, what type of kid is Pittman? I noticed last night he was running his mouth to Euton all night. I know Euton will get this from a lot of players because of his UK commitment. I just think he would be a greater player if he just would play his game and let that do his talking for him.

 

Pittman is actually a pretty good kid. Doesn't get in trouble in school and is a good kid off the court. Always playing basketball somewhere from what I hear. He does like to talk a lot during the game though to his teammates when they do something well.

 

Both were jawing back and forth last night though at the beginning of the game which I think came from Holmes getting out to a big lead and Euton getting frustrated that Pittman was playing so physical. Pittman and Euton were battling down low and a foul was called on a shot and as Pittman was walking by Euton, Euton bumped in to him and kind of shoved him then Pittman got in his face and had a few quick words for him before Riley and a few other players stepped in and pulled Pittman away. The refs said something to both players and that was that.

 

Pittman let his game do all the talking. Very next time down I believe, Euton drove and tried a basline jumper and Pittman sent him in the end zone stands

Pittman is a good kid, he plays with swagger and emotion. He is taking on a leadership role as seen last night. He set the tone from the jump. I like that he is kinda cocky thats what Holmes needs. That what Arrez brought. I think Ricardo is the best player, but Pittman is becoming the vocal leader. I might be wrong [JMO].

I don't think anybody said all the best players in the 9th had Holmes across their chest. A few just stated that they felt Holmes as a TEAM wouldn't lose to a NKY All Star team.

It's good competitive BB, No one was out there throwing elbows or punches. Most of these guys play with, or against each other in the summer, all respect each others game. If I'm not mistaken, didn't Guyn play with Ky. Players some this summer?

Actually that was R. Johnson who had his shot blocked on the next possession.

 

As far as the last sentence, that could be said vice versa as well for the other party involved in this topic. Sure doesn't seem like it affected one of those teams last night...One has already had their wake up call...hopefully the other can learn the same lesson from this game. :thumb:

Well said.

 

Guyn played with the Johnson Brothers, Pittman and Arnold over the summer so I know there's a mutual respect and bond between those five players.

 

Also both teams showed great sportsmanship after the game, giving one another hugs while shaking hands, despite SC looking very deflated.

If you can get in to their 8-10 on the bench, they're very beatable. Problem is, their 1-7 could start for any team in nky and a lot around the state, so even if two do get in foul trouble, 6 and 7 are good enough to step in and hold a lead while whoever in the starting 5 is in foul trouble.

 

Honestly, the only way to hurt Holmes with foul trouble is getting Riley in foul trouble. As long as he's in the game, you won't see a drop off in production because of how good he is at scoring and distributing. If Pittman or R. Johnson are out, you'll see him shoot more, which is never good for other teams.

Boone County wouldnt come within 20 points of Holmes.

 

I totally agree with you. Boone does not match up with Holmes at any position or the bench.

 

It would take pretty much a miracle for Holmes not to make it out of the 9th region this year or next.
