I totally agree with you. Boone does not match up with Holmes at any position or the bench.

 

It would take pretty much a miracle for Holmes not to make it out of the 9th region this year or next.

The state is wide open this year. There is not much gap from #1 to #10. Guard play is crucial and having that one player that can provide big-game leadership is what its going to take to win four in a row.

I thought Holmes definitly outplayed Scott Co. The stat sheet on page 1 said the rebounding was 37 to 34, but it seemed much worse. I also believe that it will take Jackson, Euton, and Housely a while to adjust to playing with their new teams in new systems. I really think all 3 will be much more effective later in the year.

JaMel Riley is the most underrated player in the state and he is the difference in this game with his shooting ability and handling the ball. Holmes defense was also very good, but ultimately Riley made all the difference.

The shot is no different than the ones by Knowitall.

 

Sure, rank whoever at #1. It doesn't mean a thing until you beat someone legit. Holmes beat Scott County tonight. Who has Elliott beaten this century? Why isn't Jeffersontown mentioned? The fact is, every coach in the state nearly has picked SC number one. We are two weeks in and they already lost.

 

What about Shelby Valley? At least 2 impressive wins so far & I believe they did beat J'town last year & return most everyone this year.

I hate to sound like a homer but honestly, with this win, Holmes is the best team in the state IMO. If they play hard like they did last night, nobody is going to beat them. The key word though is IF they play hard. Talent wise, you won't find a better team in the state than Holmes. Not many teams would have been able to keep their composure against SC the way Holmes did when SC started throwing that press at them and no team is going to dominate SC the way Holmes did last night either.

 

It's really all about match ups and Holmes matches up with SC better than anyone in the state.

Shelby Valley didn't beat Jeffersontown last year, but did play them to a close game in Jeffersontown's tournament.

For us older folks its just not the same seeing Holmes warm up without wearing the candy striped pants. Those were classic.

 

Did they stop wearing those, and if so, why? Those warmups are classic. I know vertical stripes are supposed to give that "slim" appearance, but I can't get paste that mental picture of Jack Jennings in a pair of those.

I believe Holmes quit wearing those in 92 or 93. Not really sure why though.

Let's not get carried away again...........not All the best players in the ninth have HOLMES across their chest ! Silly speculation at best. Let's stick to real facts.......on that end Holmes is the real deal. My simple take:

 

HOLMES: Pittman was a presence...took SC big men out of their game early/often. Thought Ricardo played well in streaks, but JJ was the best Johnson last night as he contributed in all facets and the press did hurt them in his absence (depth for Holmes is another discussion) Riley was outstanding, very impressed with shot and composure, showed some leadership that will be important to this team. Overall, great execution early, clearly the quicker team most of the night, definitely proved they have enough to contend for the title.

Henley - love his calmness and way he handles these kids, seems to be a perfect fit and is developing a great program.

 

SCOTT CO. - Euton is better than he played in this game, he and Phares got taken out of their style of play and didn't adjust. (have seen Euton play alot, not UK/SEC caliber) Jackson is a great talent but continues to not rise-up, really think there is more to offer. Gulyn was clearly the the best player on SC, liked his shot, hops, hustle. Flannery should have stayed North, nice player but seems like they are trying to find time for him on the floor, fit better at Boone. SC is a talented squad with some depth. Not quite as good as hyped, but don't think this game makes them less of a contender....we may have seen one/both state finalist in this one!

Great talent all over the floor.....very entertaining game in a wonderful facility....nice event !

 

Hate to part this way but, the Cincy Enquirer photo should have read " Boone Co. transfer Austin Flannery and Rose Hill transfer Chad Jackson guard Newport transfer Brandon Housley in the Holmes/Scott Co. match-up in the Bank-One Center last night" Sorry, just struck me as funny !
