Time will tell, when he doesn't have Newton will they still be competing for SEC and National Championships. Great players make coaches look really smart. Bad players make coaches look really dumb.

Recruiting and developing players is also apart of coaching so Cam Newton may have come into the player he is now because of Chizik and Malzahn. Even great players need coaching to make sure their abilities are fully utilized on the field and Chizik and his coaching staff did that.

The recruiting of Cam Newton brings up a lot of question marks to me. Just because the NCAA didn't find anything doesn't mean much, IMO. They didn't find anything on Bledsoe, that didn't mean his grade wasn't changed. It means somebody either did a poor job of taking records or someone did a good job of hiding records. I am a UK fan and glad they didn't find anything, but that doesn't mean there wasn't anything to it. We might find out the truth about Newton when the people that are in the know decide to talk. If he just went to Auburn because they were better recruiters then so be it. But I'm not sold that he is a good of a coach as he is being built up right now. Time will tell.
January 11, 201115 yr Interesting comments after the hiring of Gene Chizak. Someone at Auburn had a pretty keen eye back in 2008.
