Congratulations to the Bluebirds on #18! It was a very fun game to watch.:dancingpa

Also, I've only seen his name mentioned a couple times on here and think this young man deserves a little more credit than he's getting. #46 Blake Newman was EVERYWHERE tonight. He'd make 4 or 5 tackles in a row and then after a few plays do it again. He and #42 Olliver Head stuck out tonight. Congrats to these two players, and the team as a whole.

p.s. I was wondering if anyone noticed the fumble by the Highlands RB that bounced off of the referee only to land back in the hands of the RB. I personally thought this was quite funny.

Congratulations Highlands

Did you see the replay on the scoreboard? It sure looked like it hit the ground. The official in his defense had a tough angle because Gold's back blocked his view.

Its funny. I saw the same replay that you and everyone else did and there is no way, and I mean no way, that any one can conclusively tell from the replay whether he did or did not catch that ball. He may have; he may not have.

I don't want to join in the momentum debate. To me it's kind of irrelevent.

The key to Highlands win was shaking off what was a very poorly played and coached first half. I'll leave it at that and will not provide details. In the second half, we performed better. I felt (and still feel) that we were a 5 or 6 td better team than CC. If we'd have executed the entire game like we did most of the second half, the outcome would have been what I expected.

But I'll "take" a 20 point state championship win in a NY heartbeat. Way to get things straightened out Birds and refocused in the second half. I like the way this team overcome adversity, injuries and mistakes during the season. I remember reading some concerns about senior leadership on this team before the season began. Those concerns were proven completely unfounded. To lose Conner and Frank for most of the season, to lose Roller in the second playoff game, to be down to Station with 3 minutes left, to deal with what happened before you left the school and get focused on a football game, to give your state championship opponent the ball 3 times on turnovers on your side of the 50, and still be able to say you were state champions requires great leadership from the seniors and all the other players on the team. There are a lot, a whole lot, of people that are very proud of you and respect you for so much more than just being good football players.

I know there's one man who could not be at the game that will demonstrate that same drive to overcome adversity in the coming months. Count on it. Steve and Brandon both have some tough rehab steps in front of them. But Rollers are tough, very tough people and they will take on their battles, their set backs and whip them. Thank you seniors, from the bottom of my heart, for taking the State Championship trophy over to him yesterday. I am sure that it made him and his family extremely happy. And thank you to everyone saying prayers for Steve and his family and please keep them coming.

Amen to that! :thumb:

I'm not going to get into this debate with everyone, but I was with a group in one of the suites, and there were two up-and-coming Birds (both 3rd graders) who were dogging we elders(including a couple of former HHS coaches) for saying we thought it hit the ground. When they saw the replay, the quietly agreed with us. It was clear from the replay it hit the ground and should have been ruled a non-catch. I don't know if we were privy to additional angles that were not shown on the big screen or not.

I may be the only Bluebird on this thread that will admit that if that's waved off, things could have been different. HHS scores 15 points without CC seeing the ball. Do I think CC wins? No I don't. I thought HHS made the proper adjustments at the half to secure the victory...with or without points before the half.

Good job Birds! Congrats on an outstanding year!

I was not at the game and did not see any replays. I did listen to the replay off the game on the KHSAA network. Gary Ball and Dougy Allen both said they saw the replays (as well as the original play obviously) and they said they thought it was a catch. So even with replay there is a difference of opinion. The referees did not have that luxury.

I thought it was a trap when I saw it live and the replay showed the ball hitting the ground. Really, it never should have gotten to that point ... Christian gave up the long pass play just before that to put Highlands in position to score.

Plus, there was time for another play if it had been called incomplete.

The ball bounced and then was caught. Replay showed it, but they took it off the big screen as soon as they realized the officials made the wrong call. However, Highlands was still the better team. CCHS couldn't capitalize on the turnovers they created and stalled out when they got inside the 20.

On the unsportsmanlike conduct: it was bang bang the whistle blew and 13 threw the player down, could have gone either way, depends on which side you were cheering for.

Very impressed with #7 from Highlands, he had a great game everywhere the ball was so was he.

Congrats to Highlands, here’s hoping for a return engagement next year.

The personnal was a no brainer.

Laber played the game of his life in the biggest game of his High School career. What a way to end a great high school football experience.

Congrats 58/7

Wow!!! Couldn't have said it better myself. Well I did say "some" of that stuff, especially during the game. Just not so eloquently as you did.

Aw, jeez. Now you've done it. I hope people in Ft Thomas don't know your true identity. Heck to be paid if they do.;)

Congrats Birds!

You've made a dynasty type run to bring home #18!

Nah, he's entitled to his opinion even if it's wrong. :D You should know that by now as you've been in his position many, many times. :D:D:D
