There really hasn't been to many in person games for me...so I guess I gotta say when UK upset Tennessee at Rupp last year.

 

Same here. My family isn't from here so I am the only one who is a true blue fan, so until I started making money I couldn't go to any games, and the best game I have been to was the UT UK game last year when we upset them.

January 1990 XU vs Loyola Marymount at the Gardens.

 

Jamal Walker hit a jumper at the buzzer to give X the 115 - 113 win over Bo Kimble and Hank Gathers in what would be Gathers' last year on this earth. Kimble went nuts and had 38 points/10 boards.

Temple at Louisville in the quarterfinals of the NIT a few years back, for a number of reasons.

 

We were there at the invitation of one of the Temple players; whose sister was dating mcson at the time. We sat 2 rows behind the Temple bench. Sitting two seats away from us was Buddy Ryan.

 

This was the game where some kind of "ice show" was scheduled a couple of days from the basketball game. The floor was slick the entire second half, and one of the Temple players (Lynn Greer) sprained an ankle pretty badly during the game.

 

It was a close game, with Temple winning by a few points. Rick Pitino came out after the game and talked to the remaining crowd for quite a while.

 

After the game our family got to meet with Coach Chaney. He didn't know us from Adam, but spent at least 10-15 minutes speaking with us. A very different guy off the court. Of course, I didn't know prior to the game that this meeting would take place, so just before he went back into the locker room I asked if he would give me an autograph, as it's not every day that I run into a HOFer. He made one of his players go get a Sharpie, then signed all three of the ticket stubs that I had. Needless to say, I came away very impressed with coach Chaney.

1978 Kansas at UK - The Cats score 6 points in the last 10 seconds of regulation to put the game into overtime. Those 6 points included 2 technical fowl shots by Kyle Macy after Kansas guard Darnell Valetine called timeout with none left. Kentucky won it in overtime.

 

I didn't get to see the end of this, because I thought it was over and left early to get ahead of the crowd. I listened to the overtime in my car. :irked: I have never left any sporting event early since that game.

Ive only been to 2 games at Rupp but my first one was my favorite. I think it was January 2006 vs Arkansas. Arkansas was spanking UK and had an 18 point lead but we stormed back and won the game. That was awesome.

 

Last game I went to was 2 weeks after the first one and that dang Chris Lofton shot the cats down.

I have a bunch at Rupp. A lot of the ones that are already on here, but one that I haven't seen.

 

UK played LSU in 90 I think. Chris Jackson, Shaq, Stanley Roberts...LSU ranked 3rd. Chris Jackson dropped 50 in an unbelievable performance, but UK beat them. I forget the exact score as I was 12, but that was the most electric game I have been too in Rupp. It was the second year for Petino and he had them rockin and rollin and bomboing away. You had Pelphrey sprinting behind pple and diving to just get a deflection. Awesome game.

1976 - The 1st game played in Rupp Arena. I still have the ticket stub somewhere. I sat 2 rows from the top with my parents.

I believe you are correct. Ironic.

After some thought, I think one of the better games I have attended was when UC played Marquette at the shoe in Wade's last year there. I believe they went to the final four that year. I was somewhere up in the rafters at the shoe but the place was rockin' all night. It came down to last possession and Marquette had at least two guys following Steve Logan, who was a first team all American that year, all over the court. They kicked to 6'11'' Donald Little of all people, a step or 2 in front of the three point line and he hit the jumper to win it. The place went nuts...

 

I remember right as he was releasing the shot the place got a little quiter and the person next to me said "WHY DO THEY HAVE HIM IN THERE!" When it went in amongst the chaos I turned and said "THATS WHY!"... lol...

No, two different games.

 

The one Swamprat is remembering was the next year at Rupp and his description of the miracle was of the finish of the game in OT. UK had overecome a 6 point deficit with a couple of minutes to go to force OT. They were down 6 again with :23 left and managed some Turnovers, timely shots and the final piece with about :06 left. Anderson flew out of bounds for an errant KU pass and flipped it to Macy. He took a couple of dribbles and drilled one from the elbow with about :03 left to tie the game. Valentine called the Time out they didn't have and UK's Macy got one free throw (the rules in '78) for a player Technical. He sank it and UK won by one point.

 

 

The night Rupp died UK was in Lawrence in December of '77 (the championship year). The Cats pulled out about a tough 8 point (?) win against the Jayhawks. When they got back to the hotel that night the word had come that Rupp died while the Cats were playing.

 

A few nights later the Cats played South Carolina (I think) and in pregame the lights went down and a lone spotlight illuminated Rupp's recliner he had at the arena for when he came. Then a tape came over the sound system and it was Rupp reading one of his favorite poems. My parents were there and said it was an emotional experience. Kentucky winning the NCAA that season seemed only right after Rupp was dead.

Mine has to be the WKU/UK game (sorry I don't remember many details . . . I was pretty young . . . but I was there!!) back in the 70's. I want to think it was a NCAA tourny (but don't quote me) when WKU beat UK. I really need to go back an find the records and listen to them again.

I have only had the chance to go to 4 or 5 college games in my life, as I prefer my front row recliner seat.

 

However, I go to the Sweet 16 at least some every year and the greatest games I have ever seen in person have been there. Just to name a few:

 

Antwain Barber for E-Town on that Sat. 2001??

 

Chris Lofton: vs. Ballard for state championship

vs. Trinity 3 OT????

 

Pulaski Co. when they had Epps and Co. about 1991????

My dad's b-day, I was 11 years old. My dad, me, one of dad's friends, and his two sons went to Riverfront Stadium. After a long rain delay Tom Browning faced 27 Dodger batters and sent all 27 down.
