Exactly...from what I can hear and read, it seems that the talent level for the most part is even, and recently, several people have suggested that if anyone has the talent advantage it would be X.

 

So, again, I ask, why can't they win the game that counts? Why is Trinity always prepared to play their best when the stakes are highest...and X is not?

 

X was prepared to play...maybe T had the better RB Friday night...maybe T had the better linebackers Friday night...They were simply the better team Friday night, the score speaks for itself. This was not the result of a lack of focus, poor coaching etc..

I must say that I'm reading practically no excuses or spins from the X camp. We played a great game to win, and beat a fine football team. Congrats to both.

Any guesses as to why X can't beat Trinity when it really counts? Especially when they manhandle them during the season?

 

Is it coaching? Are those regular season games flukes? Seeing as how these two teams know that they'll meet again in the playoffs and the winner will win state...does Trinity use the regular season game like a science lab to experiment with things to see what works and what doesn't, then spend the rest of the season working on the good and getting rid of the bad? Second time around, the unleash it all on X and they have no answer?

 

Just curious. To me, that is the most impressive thing about Trinity...their ability to make such a huge improvement as a team every season to where they're always playing at their highest level when it matters most. That's the goal of every team in every sport, but few accomplish it to the level that Trinity has over the past decade.

 

I'm an outsider looking in at both programs. Both very good. The impression I have is emotion may play a bigger role than anyone thinks. Glaser seems to be a guy that gets caught in the emotion and only realizes it after he is part way down the path. Tough way to keep kids focused and teach them about football, sportsmanship etc. Still, it is obvious, he takes he team to, or near the top every year - not many can claim such consistency. Beatty appears to be mostly business. Flys under the radar, keeping his goal in mind. Someone said earlier he doesn't mind taking things slow at the beginning of the year even if he looses a few on the way. Not a bad strategy with a seemingly limitless talent pool.

 

It hard to argue with T's success, it's equally as hard to argue with X's success, still heads and shoulders above the publics. Without ties allowed - someone has to loose.

Congrats to the Rocks. Being back around the program these past couple of years, I am amazed at what these kids go through year round to keep the streak (State Titles) alive. To the St.X players that finished their careers without a State title, you can walk away with pride knowing you left everything on the field.

Many of you missed my point / my question. I offered the t-shirts as only an example of what I thought might be too great a focus, too great a season long pressure on wining it all. I know t-shirts don't win titles... if they did Obama would be president.... hey, wait a minute.... :confused:

I think that Coach Glasier just gets himself and his players way to tight for the games against Trinity. I heard Coach Beatty on the radio after the Eastern game, and he said that Trinity did what it had to do, that was to get back to the semi-final game against St.X. He stated that there wasn't any pressure on Trinity to win, all the pressure was and still is on St.X to win they were undefeated and #1 in the polls again and lost again.

 

But at least I did not hear Coach Glazier say, that they were still the best team as he has done in the past couple of years.

 

Coach Beatty makes the kids believe that they can win and Glazier seems to say that they can't loose what a difference a couple of words seem to make.

I guarantee you that Glaser never said St X can't lose. I'm pretty sure X did what it had to do vs. Manual winning 53-0. It wasn't a function of being "tight". It was a function of Trinity executing at a higher level and beating a very well-coached well prepared team.
