To the kids of X. I know that it might be hard to hold your head up high at this time. Losing is apart of life. I can promise there will be losses much greater or more important in life than this. Continue to be the best that you can be in every part of life.

Question: Yesterday I saw an obituary for a young man named Gruneisen. Stated he was memeber of the X football team. Any details about this?

Some thoughts:

By best friend (lifelong X man) doubted X ever since the victory in Oct. (in all fairness he is NOT a Glaser fan). I believe secretly other X fans did as well. In 2005 T had to play a perfect game to win (which they did)...in 2008 they did not play anywhere close to a perfect game (4 TOs to X's 2, more penalty yards, subpar game by the QB) and still won. This game was actually closer to being a 2 or 3 score T victory than is was to being an X win (though X did outplay T in the second half). X's #81 made the best catch of the game, but he did not shake hands after the game. The talent on both sides of the field was exactly even. The coaching/preparation was not. Duece and Timmy are different types of backs but you cannot convice me that one is better than the other. (And on that note I can't imagine the S-K back being better than them, but I guess we will see.) I really do feel bad for Duece, Brutcher, DJ Hall, and a host of other quality X players that played their hearts out. Beatty & Co. will have T ready for next Saturday, leaving no doubt that X is the true state runner-up (like Male in 2006). T's sceme is second to none, and the future looks pretty bright.

Being a betting man, I would be willing to wager that almost all 137 of these pollsters truly felt as if the Tigers would pull out the victory. I would also wager that of the 48 that voted Rocks, at least half voted with their heart and not how they truly believed the outcome would pan out. A better question is why are many posters in your own backyard obvious omissions from the pollsters representing this whopping 26%. Did they not have enough faith in your team to vote for them?

 

Congrats Rocks-you deserved the victory and pulled off the upset AGAIN! My son pointed out a couple of years ago 2 key areas that obviously take the Rocks to the next level in playoff time to surpass the Tigers and I have to admit he appears correct. Until the Tigers figure it out I expect much of the same.

 

Hold your heads up Tigers-great year and coming up on the short end against a formidable opponent is no reason to get down. We are all very proud of how you battled back to make it a game. X will be back-the 90's weren't that long ago and you never know the next decade may be ours again. Looking forward to it.

 

You may be right to some degree, but at least, I know where my vote stood! Based on the personnel changes on defense and especially the offensive line, I was very confident the Rocks would win this game. No disrespect to the fine young men who filled those positions before hand. The offensive line was a patch job the first time around and you could see their timing was off. More thinking than reaction. X played a great game and really took it to us. Having the offensive line healthy for the playoffs proved to be the difference. Also, the defensive adjustments with personnel and positions T made, gave a new look in which X was not prepared for in the first half. Congrats to X on the second half adjustments, but the hole was to deep for a win. Bottom line, Beatty and staff have a great way of plugging the right parts at the right time as the season progresses. I would like to close by saying to the seniors on both teams, you represented your team well and good luck with your future after football. GO ROCKS! #19

They seem to forget that X has throttled T during the regular season matchups a number of times over the past few years and have fallen short in hard fought games. T has definitely gotten it done in the playoffs, but to say X is no longer in T's league is a joke.

 

I'm not the biggest Glaser fan by any stretch, but I really would have like to have see him get his undefeated season, but this was not to be the year.

I do not think it is T faithful who express such. WE know you to be a formidable and worthy adversary. Clearly the 2nd best team in the State.

 

I can understand the upset and disappointment your fine team must have felt. Someone wrote about one of the X players refusing to shake hands after the game. I hope that was not accurate. That happens at other places - but it should not with these two pinacle programs. Hopefully we all learn to both win and loose with class.

How about this for an answer to the playoff issue and the regular season beat down that seems to happen every year since the 04 season. Perhaps we run some defensive schemes that are known to work against X and have for years come playoff time( why we do not during the regular season game I will never understand). Given the wealth of defensive knowledge still within the walls of Trinity and some on the outside I would bet on it. Perhaps the fact that X has all of it's offense in place by the 5th game, gives them an advantage during the regular season game but is a bit pradictable come playoff time, while conversely Trinity has just too much offense in place with both an outstanding passing attack complemented by an always better than average run game come playoff time. Perhaps it is some of all of the above.

I know many of my posts smell of sarcasm, but I am really trying to be serious here. I wonder if there isn't too much pressure put on the St. X kids during the course of the season. The season themes (t-shirts they wear) all focus on winning the state title... Last Game, Leave No Doubt, I think that message may wear on the young men over the course of the season. The Tigers are heads and shoulders above all other teams at mid season, and still mighty enough in the playoffs to beat most anyone else. I just don't see that they steadily improve, they rocket to a peak then fizzle some at the end. Coach G even said as much on his radio show Friday. He was glad the game was coming before the title game as he talked about let downs. Now, admiting to title game letdowns is another story, but I think what he had to say sort of supports my position. I like the way Trinity splits the season into 3 mini seasons. It seems to take the pressure levels way down. The team only has to really get into the frenzy peak the last 5 games of the season, which I think is a lot easier for a young mind and body to handle. What do you think? Have I been smoking to much ginsing?

I wondered the same myself. Unquestionably X is/has a first rate - top notch program. Their kids are pretty much the same as ours. Come from the same places, backgrounds - heck they are friends and respect and know one another.

 

The "Slogan \ shirt of the Year" - I always wondered about it. They don't really need it. But thats just my opinion.
