  1. I'm an outsider looking in at both programs. Both very good. The impression I have is emotion may play a bigger role than anyone thinks. Glaser seems to be a guy that gets caught in the emotion and only realizes it after he is part way down the path. Tough way to keep kids focused and teach them about football, sportsmanship etc. Still, it is obvious, he takes he team to, or near the top every year - not many can claim such consistency. Beatty appears to be mostly business. Flys under the radar, keeping his goal in mind. Someone said earlier he doesn't mind taking things slow at the beginning of the year even if he looses a few on the way. Not a bad strategy with a seemingly limitless talent pool. It hard to argue with T's success, it's equally as hard to argue with X's success, still heads and shoulders above the publics. Without ties allowed - someone has to loose.
  2. Congratulations to Trinity! I wonder now how the steamrolling X does to the other teams really helps them, other than the ratings? It does seem to come down to the X's and O's the last few years with T able to bring it together in the end. X and T (and Highland) are flagship programs in the state. No other programs can match funding and across the board talent. I don't anticipate the playoff participants changing much in the coming years.
  3. I saw in the CJ that Redmon apologized to purple wearing fans. I thought there was no need to apologize but Male was definately off their game. Other than the kick returned for a TD nothing seemed to go right for Male. Congratulations to the Cimsons. Good luck to both teams in the playoffs.
  4. This game seems to be an emotional one for both teams. The last four or five games I saw were pretty close, last years went to Manual. Will emotion get it back for Male or will Manual keep the barrel? It seems like Male is down this year - as is Manual. This year seems like another toss-up. Hopefully the rain will hold off for the evening and the boys can enjoy being in Cardinal Stadium. :banana:Good night for a party.
  5. I'm not sure its sour grapes as much as frustration with the perceptions about Manual and other public school programs. X & T get the talent they want, much more of a complete package than any public school has assembled this year. How many lineman comparible to X's can be found at YPAS? X could easily field two teams that could compete with most 6A schools and probably another in the 3A or 4A area. X has a good team this year and will likely comptete for the title. I know some of the kids on the team and they are good kids! With all they have going for them why do they play like they have a chip on their shoulder? Did the score really need to be 57-0?
  6. What kind of a statement is this? Education is the primary driver. Parents who have spent money on their kids education in grade school are focused on education. Don't kid yourself, the decision on where a boy goes to high school is not made solely by the boy, the parents generally guide the decision. Both Manual and X & T offer quality education. Manual's is 8,000 less per year. If you had the chance for the same product at less cost.........? X has the resoruces this year to win. Manuals chance to win rests on missed opportunity by X. X will need to make a number of serious mistakes to loose this one.
  7. Look, I ate the hot dog without getting ketchup or mustard on my hands.....this time.
  8. Fun thread. As I quickly scanned the Q & A's I didn't see a school that has an interesting nickname. I know the nickname, but not the school, could we reverse order for this one? Nickname School Engineers
  9. This does seem to be a characteristic of this Manual team! It should help them throughout the season.
  10. Good individual play by a number of players, mopre consistancy is needed on both sides of the ball. Too many "big" plays challenged Manual early on
  11. Doug Beaumont is certainly a quality player and quality person, Male was good in 2006, but certianly not the best in the state...... they squeeked by a few teams that year too , which is what good teams do.
  12. A lot of good points are being made. Nothing has said about the factor weather on attendance in the December championships. It might be fun to go to the games, but I'm sure a lot of folks just don't want to sit through hours in extreme cold (without the possibility of a trophy deer) in most cases. I see it less about location and more about weather.
  13. But Ref,.....I didn't think it was a horse collar tackle if he didn't have the ball.....
  14. I agree, although with your AVATAR yours is a very scary reply:scared:
  15. I think this is a function of the Head Coach and Assistant Coaches. If they see it as a place to improve and learn the players will also.
  16. With Coach Nichols performing as the OC he will need to trust whoever he has in the box to be his eyes. I can only guess their was a disagreement when the former OC left the box before halftime and left the Crimson hanging during the X playoff game last year. Strategy and play options need to be discussed before the game begins to allow for flexibility as the game unfolds.
  17. Did Henderson lose to this team last year? I thought they dropped one or two to Indiana teams. If so it does look as though they are moving back to their usual winning ways.
  18. Both teams appeared to shine during different parts of the game and have a really tough time with fundamentals during other parts of the game. All did appear to be lost for Manual when Central snapped it into the endzone. I'd put the whiffed punt under first game jitters (who practices that) - had he tossed it out of bounds the game would have been tied with about 1:30 remaining. Congrats to Manual for getting past a tough Central team.:dancingpa
  19. I think that most D3 schools are private schools. Being private simply means they have to stay on top of actual cost. No subsidies from the state. State schools factor in state subsidies (I think) before calculating tuition. They also have to get permission to raise tuition from the state. In my opinion all Universities and Colleges operating in the state should be required to present tuition as actual cost without state subsidies. If the state wants to encourage in-state students to stay in state they can offer "automatic" scholarships or grants just for living in KY. In this way the out-of-state students pay full cost and in-state get a break without artifically surpressing the tuition costs. If the states around KY are examined many have higher tuitions with scholarships for in-state students. Our son in going D3 to be able to play football. With the aid that was offered it will be cheaper than UK (after the 2008 tuition increase). We are tickled with the attention he has received so far. He has met some stand-up men on the football team already and the coaches and administrators seem to be truly interested in him as a person rather than a body to help the school reach its athletic goals. We think this will be a better experience than he may have had at a larger public university.
  20. The win at the Male 7 on 7 sounds prominsing for a team that lost their OC from last year. I've heard Nichols is taking over as OC. Although he is a defensive guy, this could be a good thing. He may be more willing to try new things rather than sticking with the long ball. In the end it will need to be the linemen that advance Manual.
  21. At Approximately $750, 000 you could re-sod a field for many years. How long are these things suppose to last? I heard Lex Cath had one of the first and it is starting to show it's age. Can they be rehabed?
  22. I know field turf is the latest rage and offers loads of flexibility. I'm hearing about injury issues and long term maintenance issues with the field turf. Are these real issues or just justification to not spend the $3/4 million? Not clear about the injuries, I'm hearing they are "studying" a possible connection. Long term maintenance will be a big deal if a school needs to raise funds every 10-15 years to rebuild or rehab the field.
  23. IMO Manual (and a lot of other schools) could succeed by picking a few things and do them really well. From what I hear Manual is retooling in the coaching ranks following the departure of the OC. They now have an opportunity to become less predictable and less dependant on the long ball. I expect to see them mix it up offesively and defensively in coming years.
  24. I saw three from DuPont Manual are going. Marcus Niemann, Andre Wells and Travis Williams.
