  1. From what I can recall they are a very athletic bunch that is also on the young side. When I got to see them play they performed well, appeared well coached but ran out of steam. I'm sure they are working hard on their offseason conditioning. :fight:
  2. Only time in recent history is Manual during the playoff with St. X two years ago at Papa John's. Harness (a sophomore) got hurt. Backup was a freshman who also got hurt, then they moved a WR over to finish the game.
  3. If money is really an issue why would he initiate a lawsuit? I don't know the in-and-outs of divorce, but I would think that there are options to resolving such an issue without tying up the courts. Arbitration? Is mom willing to foot the bill for something she feels strongly about? I think it's less about money and more about getting ones way.
  4. RM - Agreed! IF the child is mature enough to gather information, process it and make an informed decision. All too often we see kids reflecting the positive and negative traits and opinions of the parents. Success is not guaranteed, although success will be more probable with hard work and desire. As you say - one piece of the puzzle... I too agree kids our children will stand a better chance to succeed if there are where they want to be,
  5. It does seem to be a too little too late arguement. I think the father should have made the arguement earlier, he may have, although we don't know from the article. The paper also said they had joint custody. Seems they shold both have an equal say in where he goes. Obviously, they aren't negotiating with the goal of getting their son a good education in mind. As far as the religious aspect I believe a parent can teach a child at home, although it isn't as formal as you might get in a religiously afliiated school the values certainly can be taught. I have observed as least a few parents who abdicate religious education responsibilities since their child is going to a religious school. St. X is an excellant academic school. There are other options to get the same academic rigors in other schools. Parental invovlement is the key to the success (or failure) of their child - in any endeavor..... religion, academics, sports, social interaction, drugs, bad influences, etc.
  6. Without a very strong line to provide protection playing a freshman may prove counter productive if they don't have the time to throw. Without a strong and experienced line the chances of getting a QB hurt is too high IMO.
  7. Sounds as though Centre will be throwing the ball a lot more in coming years. :flame:
  8. New Coach - any assistants named?
  9. Tony, If you really want to know start another thread. This appears to be a T - X lovefest.:lol:
  10. Our expereince has been they are not worth it. We went to a few. One was mis-scheduled and moved at the last minute. It was in Chicago in March - outside. Not exactly the best weather to post decent times. Vertical leap was eyeballed, I heard some kids were able to increase their calculated height by pulling thier legs up and increasing their time off the electronic mat. 40's and shuttles were hand timed and VERY inconsistent. Even if your player has a blazing speed I would take these cautiously. A 4.4 can become a 4.9 very easily. Another we attended was inside and there were so many boys on a warm day, condensation was forming over everything. The running surface was so slick the players were running bare footed or in socks. We have been to three, each time hoping the next would be better, and none were run efficiently. It can be fun for the kids with free stuff from nike, army , etc. Waste of time in my opinion
  11. I am interested in seeing how players like Doug Beaumont and Victor Anderson perform at U of L. Beaumont and Anderson are a little on the small size. Both have great speed. IMO Beaumont definitely has the heart and a good football sense.:thumb:
  12. Stat-less intangibles are what you two are saying. Why is it the D1 schools continue to confound me with their interest in stats and size. I'm not saying those things aren't important, but like your saying - there is more to the story.....:irked:
  13. What is it that makes a great player? I have read about QB's or RB's that get a lot of air time for their accomplishments. Some are truly great, when you know they are going to get te ball and they make their play anyway. Some have been labeled great, have good stats, accomplished a milestone, but overall may not be that much different than the average player that doesn't throw as much or get handed the ball as much. Is 1000 yds rushing for the year with an avergage of 1 yd per rush great? What is the distinguishing characteristic?
  14. A whole lot of discussion about two teams that approach the season in fundamentally different ways. IMO X goes at it trying to win anyway they can with thier 22 strongest players. A whole lot is shouldered by star players that may change around during the year. But for the most part they, like so many teams, get it in their head who "the studs" are and stick with them. Very little changes. Also IMO Trinity tends to use the early part of the season as a way to test the waters, try players out, try schemes out and make adjustments. The coaching staff seems to have the timing down sufficiently well to peak at the right moment. I'm not saying they don't try to win every game also, but I don't think they are as afraid to loose. Male and Manual are the only others that may be considered as challenges, but I don't see it this year. Other than Justin Green I'm not sure what Male's packing. Manual lost their OC which may not be that bad since he typically went for the big play and fell short many times when a short play would have kept the ball alive. So many of the other publics have had coaching changes recently I'm not sure they are a threat - yet. Out in the state I'm not sure any can match the speed the Louisville schools have every year.
  15. My son recently had an overnight at Centre. Apparently liked it quite a bit. At this point we are just waiting for the financial aid information to help finalize a decision.
  16. Any experience returning on the line? Male may have Justin Green, but they still need to stop the run and provide the opportunity for Green to get the ball.
  17. Has anybody heard who the new offensive coordinator will be?
  18. Looks like Weiter has his job cut out for him. J-towns last winning season was 16 years ago, best since then was 5-5 15 years ago. He could use some help from recent Manual grads they can carry a winning attitude with them to help jump start this program. As far as getting the J-town students to play something other than basketball I think that will come with winning, athletes gravitate to teams that win. From what I have seen at Manual he needs a fast back and at least a receiver that can catch the long ball (hmmm think basketball again).
  19. I can't agree with the first bold statement. Kentucky has some great talent out there. I would guess some BGP members could pick quite a few players that are going to lesser colleges (level-wise) and find some some misses on WKU' part. The second bold statement put the caveat on the first bold - Colleges don't recruit every position every year. I realize they are sometimes loaded with linemen, or d-backs, etc. I also realize they recruit for depth (picking up 2-3 QB's in any year to make sure they have a capable backup). The other part of this is they can't look at these players in detail - which is why I think a lot of colleges rely on: 1) minimum dimensions (height, wing span, etc.); 2) minimum speed (skill positions primarily); 3) coaches recommendation (or lack there-of). A lot of talent that can compete at Sun-belt level and above gets overlooked because they don't pan out in one of the three categories listed above.
  20. I'm not fllowing your thought here. Could they be better with lower tuition? Is the higher tuition funding the program to allow then to compete at their level? Help me understand?
  21. Coach Fox has left for an opportunity in Iowa. A new Offense Coordinator should be named within a week or two. This is a very impressive coaching staff, very focused on winning, but not off the deep end with it. I believe Coach Frye is very comfortable in his role at a very well respected academic school.
  22. Two JC teams I omitted were PRP - coaching change this year - need time to rebuild and Eastern - always a threat but not able to bring it consistently. For Eastern they seem to always have two kids who can scoot. I'm not real sure why they don't threaten every year. Any others? (Given my recent memory - yes )
  23. T and X always bring the heat. They are consistent winners and that is why I think a lot of publics pull against them. None of the publics have been able to bring that same type of consistency to their game, with the possible exception of Highlands in NK. Only catch is Highlands isn't 6A. As far as the JC schools Male is about as consistent as they come, although they had a down year this past year. Manual keeps knocking at the door, but continues to struggle with offensive play calling. Some of the other bigger names in Jefferson County have had coaching changes (Butler and Ballard) so they need some rebuild time. Fern Creek's name comes up occasionally, next year will be the 2nd for their coach, I see them coming on. Who am I missing?
  24. We got to visit Rhodes recently. Very nice campus. Wasn't as comfortable in the hotel, but I don't know the town that well. The academics are comparable to Centre's. The campus is similar, although Rhodes has similar architecture on most of their buildings. They even mentioned they own their own rock quarry to make any future buildings the same. Coaching staff was impressive. we hear what I thought was good advice coming from the head coach. My son will be scheduling an overnight visit to Centre soon. That should allow a reasonable comparison.
  25. I'm know they recruited KY players, although apparently they didn't find what they were looking for in the positions they recruited. Quite a bit of interest in a player at our school over the summer, then they stopped talking as the season started. Just stopped. I understand it is about specs on a player, it's also about filling the voids that they see coming up. Potential injuries, etc need to be factored in, so I could see them needing to go out of state to get some of the players they needed this year. I would think they could find somebody to fit somewhere. I think Fans want to cheer for the local boys (reference Richie Farmer). With proven success at the D1 level they will find it easier to pick up the kids Kentucky kids.
