  1. Getting beat by Trinity may not be the issue as much as having the score so lop-sided it becomes embarassing. It's tough not to pick Trinity, though I understand if other teams choose not to play them.
  2. I'm not sure how much the heat the night of the Ballard -X game played a role. In another thread a writer said the heat took its toll on Ballard. It should be cool enough, but will it be dry enough (30% chance -so far). Manual by 6
  3. Christian County has some solid athletes and an explosive game. CC by 6
  4. Male has glided to two easy victories, it is difficult to tell exactly what they have, although all of Bob Redmon's teams are tough. Central took Manual to the wire in a battle that was tempered by the heat, Their first year coach took the blame for some missed opportunities. This game should be closer than Male has seen the last two games, I believe Central is loaded with athletes and has the potential to win, they just have to believe it. Central by one touchdown.
  5. After seeing the calprep summary thread I see you really went out on a limb:laugh:
  6. I heard something similar. I heard JCPS will consider advancing new lights if the Boosters raise the money. Seems odd that other public schools in Jeff County have received new lights and Manual needs to raise their own money??? Maybe JCPS can spring for getting the sinks fixed in the bathrooms..... kinda sad the owner (JCPS) won't provide basic maintainance and forces boosters to redirect monies that may have gone more directly to benefit the players.
  7. The players that are in better shape should reap some benefit. IMO it's the players who are hydrated throughout the day and during the game that will avoid cramping and general exhaustion. From what I've heard they should start drinking (water or sports drink) much earlier in the day than start of the game.:flame: Hot, Hot, Hot!
  8. The message wrong or not has been received by many parents. I am aware of a family who has held back all of its boys 1 year. When this happens in kindergarten I can't help but think it was for sports. It's tough to know if the student is behind before they start. The opportunity for a year (or 2) more of development gets the attention of quite a few parents - particularly if the parent was a late bloomer. I don't like the practise, but some students actually benefit from an academic perspective.
  9. IMO the teams were ranked according to how high the profile of some of the players were. At this point is very subjective, without knowing his "method" I can live with it. Is ranking preseason football like providing weather reports, right or wrong you have to do again each week.....
  10. Your right TK! Passing league victories mean nothing in the last two weeks of August. They did give a glimpse of where some of the skill players are, althoguh they still need to put it all together with pads on. The victories, I'm sure, were sweet at the time, they now have to get with the the OL and DL to see how they gel as a team......without the passing leagues all the talk on these pages would be based on last years teams and scrimmages.
  11. Wow is right! Even Nichols was surprised by being picked above St. X. Glaser tends to use this sort of thing as a hugh motivator. Hope springs eternal in the preseason. Butler is going to have an uphill battle with a freshman QB, I only hope he has an OL to protect him as he gains experience.
  12. Didn't Butler graduate Kurt Manley? I think they are working with a sophmore QB???
  13. Discipline - most boys this age need it, it's espescially important when the numbers are down and the coaches / team are fighting an uphill battle. What I have seen in the past is they get down. The coaches will be able to take advantage of the athletic talent if they can get them all pushing in the same direction without regard for the score. The mental part of the game is hugh for teams like Iroquois. Stay focused and work together.
  14. Central Hardin will be OK. Their star RB got knocked out early in the game and did to return. New coach, new system. I think they will improve tremendously as the season moves on. This sounds like a great leaning experience for CH. Manual looked good but have some kinks to work out. They have their work cut out for them in the tough schedule they play this year.
