Sorry for you loss a dog is truly a man's/women's best friend.

I too have had to put down more than a few good dogs over the years and it is never an easy thing to do. Right now I have a 14 year old Bull Mastiff that is about at the end of the road. My wife and I are hoping the old boy makes it through the winter, but there is no guarantees. He is still getting around ok and takes plenty of nourishment so I guess he is doing all right. I do not want to take that walk with him, our Copper, but I will win the time comes.

My family had to do this to my dog many years ago. I was around 12 years old at the time and it was a dog I grew up with my entire life. When my parents called home I was completely devastated. We have since got a new dog but it will never be the same.

Terrible to hear. I can't even imagine the wreck I'll be if I ever have to make that decision for Jack.

I had to let the vet put one of my dogs down in the past. It's very hard and I'm sorry for your loss.

I remember having to put down my Golden Retriever (Blaze). He was my best friend through childhood. I sobbed like a baby that day.:cry:

The worst thing about having long-time, loyal family pets. But when it comes time to make that dreaded decision, I wouldn't have it any other way than to be there at the end; as in the last paragraph of the following:

So sorry to hear. But I'm right there with your feelings on this. It has been about 4 weeks since we had to have our Jack Russell of 18 yrs put to sleep after a stroke. Couldn't even talk about it for 2 weeks. It's still tough. We had him (Rambo) cremated. RIP tough guy.

I'm sorry for those who lost their pets, it's hard having to put them to sleep. I never had to put a pet to sleep, but I will have to within the next two weeks.

 

I have two 16 1/2 year old cats, indoor all their lives, one was always only about 8-9 lbs all her life, she is now down to 3 1/2 lbs, all the weight lose has happened the last two years, with a good part of the lose in the past 6 months. Now I must decide if I should let the other one go as well, as they have been around each other all but the first 3 months of their lives, the second one is scared of noise and anything else really, not sure she will do very well without her sister, and with me living alone, I am not sure she will like the fact I will continue to not be there about 12 hours a day, and these are my last pets so no chance of getting another one.
