I would love to see the Tomcats win this one. Good Luck Tomcats from this Rams Mom.

I beleive those too together are enough to give the birds trouble. Especially if a team can run off tackle and run a little playaction to keep them honest.
No way. What (nearly) got us last night was, as Guru said, a perfect storm of all three elements.
Highlands got a wake up call last night and I think they take out their frustrations on Ashland this week.

They came very close to having their season ended by a team that shouldn't have been able to play with them. I'm sure they'll hear about that all week at practice.

Question: Did u watch the game? If so, then u saw a BS football team that is/was loaded with talent, size and has team speed.

Well, I played against the Birds three times while I was in h.s. and was 2-1 and we never had what you would call speed. So, I say good coaching, hard work, discipline and a little size is a good formula for giving the birds all the want!

Not this Bluebird team.

Highlands needs to have its best week of focus and practice, from the coaching staff to the players. Last year, we all saw how Highlands responded to the challenge they received from Central at the end of the season. Now, we'll get to see how this squad responds. Champions find ways to win... HHS found a way in week one... how will it go in week 2???

Go 'Birds!!!

I really like Conner and Crawford, but I think Highland's most productive running tandem this year has been Head and Fennell. I think Highlands should go back to using them again. They run as hard as any backs I have seen and have speed also. Having said that, I think Highlands will beat Ashland with any combination of backs they might choose.

Agree with your point, but I'd substitue Crawford for Fennell - not that Fennell isn't a very good back, I just prefer Crawford. It was great to see Conner play again, but IMO, the Crawford/Head tandem is more potent at this momment. There were a couple spots last night where Conner made very nice runs, but Crawford's speed would have gained him ~10 more yards, or maybe 7 points. Unless the O-line play was down last night, which it didn't look to be, Crawford is just faster & more explosive than Conner right now.

No slight to any of them though. I'm sure many NKY coaches would love to have all those kids!

Bryan Station had a few players faster than Highlands which is something you don't see often. Unless Ashland has a team of track stars I think the Birdies win this one. BS was clearly bigger in the trenches but Highlands still ran for at least 150 yards. It's when you can counter the Highlands speed you give them trouble.

Ashland has a speedy runningback that's for sure. I believe broke loose for a 80 yard td last night against Dixie. Don't hold me to that though!

Carter had a broke a long one in the 4th I believe to give Ashland an 11 point lead and seal the deal.

Hey, off topic, but did anyone get a photo of Adam Dempsey's interception against Bryan Station Friday? PM me if you did! Thanks!

That was dempsey?

It looks like there's a good chance Highlands could win this one by forfeit. That is, if the Tomcats read the Ashland Daily Independent. ;)

Ashland's local paper seems to be under the impression that we play our home games at Beechwood. From the paper:

The Tomcats will play against top-ranked Fort Thomas Highlands in Fort Mitchell next week. Highlands had a struggle with Bryan Station, winning 28-22.

And we thought it was bad when the Cov Cath guys thought they were playing in "Johnsonville!"

That was dempsey?

Sure was!...second "pick" this season. One against Colerain and last night's against BS. If he could ONLY find the endzone....(lol).
