Honestly, I like the idea.

KHSAA "to do" list:

 

-Name a "Player of the Year" for each of the six classes

 

-Name 1 "Mr. Football"

 

I agree an excellent idea! But when did the KHSAA listen to good ideas from the fans who support the schools and tournaments anyway.:ylsuper:

Tennessee also awards a Mr. Football Lineman that includes offensive and defensive lineman and linebackers. Plus, they award one for a kicker.

 

Great idea - but isn't that really the "All-State" team? We actually have a few of those...

I don't mind the idea. Would the POTY be Sr only eligibility?

I thought the idea, as presented, was that the "overall" Mr. Football in Kentucky would be one of the individual class winners...otherwise, one of the class winners isn't really the class winner, he becomes almost an "afterthought"...

 

Softball does this. Class POY (even though their aren't classes in softball, they divide them into 3 classes for all state team dependent on enrollment) then a Miss Softball that is not her class POY. Whatever class Miss Softball comes from, the runner up from that class becomes the class POY.

 

EG. 2008 Kirsten Allen - Ryle - Miss Softball. Since Ryle was class 3, the runner up in the class 3 voting, Abby Sears - North Laurel, was named class 3 POY.

 

I like it and it doesn't detract at all from Miss Softball. I like naming a Class POY and then an overall Mr Football.

I don't believe the KHSAA endorses this but I know when it was just 4 classes there was a Mr. Football for each class sponsored by Roy Kidd. I only know this because Marty Reagan was the Class 3A Football Player of the Year in 2002.

 

Yeah, Kasey Clark was the Roy Kidd 2A POTY in 2005.

I would go with Tevin Barksdale from Bowling Green for the 5A player of the year. Don't quote me on this, but I believe he leads Class 5A in scoring.

I really like that idea. I think for this year it should be:

 

1A-Neico Teipel OR Dominique Hayden. That's a toss up.

2A-Joe Joe Sims

3A-Chris Gohman

4A-Jamarielle Brown

5A-Zach Lewis

6A-Miles Simpson

 

Mr.Kentucky- Ricky Bowling

Career stats shouldn't factor in, I think unless there are similar stats between two people or it can't be decided from SOS. It should be that players stats and accomplishments from that year alone and not the previous. Just my opinion...

I would have to disagree with 5A and say Yorel Shemwell from Owensboro and we will see Friday night when Barksdale and Shemwell go head-to-head!

Yeah I agree with that stats are outrageous but will exclude one win loss record. How can someone be Mr. Football if there team has a lossing record. Mr. Football should be able to turn the game around and if Bowling couldnt turn South around he dont deserve it 4 and 7 this year isnt that great of a record.
