I hope a Boyle County affiliate did not do this too Mitchell like stated before. I would think Boyle County would want Mitchell to play. I f Mitchell dose not play and Boyle leaves with a win then Boyle will always have to here this explanation.. ( Boyle County wins but might have lost if Highlands would have had Mitchell.) Now do you want to win a state title under those terms?

 

Well I guess Highlands is just gonna have to beat Boyle without Mitchell, and then strip the title later. But, they still beat Boyle, that's all that matters...

It looks to me like some people tried to get around the system and didn't succeed in the end. I am glad a proper decision was made even though it was 2 months too late. Good luck to the kids from Highlands. They didn't deserve this.

No one tried to "get around the system." The KHSAA made conflicting rulings. The last ruling by the KHSAA was against Mitchell. He filed a lawsuit which he - like you if it happened to you - had a right to do. The court sided with Mitchell. The Court of Appeals reviewed that decision and reversed it, ruling Mitchell was ineligible. That's how the system works. No one is getting around anything.

 

The questionable aspect of this decision is the timing. If it's important enough to rule on quickly, the Court of Appeals should have done so. Instead they chose to wait until a few days before the championship game. It's inexcusable on the part of the Court of Appeals.

If a kid moves for whatever the reason. Father getting a different job, or anything else the kid should be able to play sports wherever he goes. This kid just wanted to go to Highlands to play football. Its simply against the rules and it shouldnt have been tested.

Does the rule say you have to sell your house?? I really don't know the answer. How can someone say it was a move for athletics? Not me. Can you explain how the KHSAA ruling officer ruled in the Mitchell's favor??

Then they go to the public school system that is in their district. Not football district but school zoning districts.

I keep seeing highlands fans say things like "it is so sad for the kids." Would the bluebird faithful be saying the same thing if Boyle had played their best player illeagally all year. Lets say that the QB from boyle co was in this same situation. Would the birds still be saying "it is so sad for the kids?"

You are referring to our judiciary system here, things take a long time. That was well known earlier.

At most private schools, that would not be an issue due to financial aid/work study. At CCH, there are more than a few boys who take part in this program.

The way I understand the situation is the kid was ruled ineligible by the KHSAA. The kids family went to court and won, even though they shouldnt have. There is a rule against what he did plain and simple!! What more is there to say.

I don't understand this.

 

The KHSAA did not make conflicting ruling. The only ruling they ever made was that Mitchell was inelligible.

 

I'm sure that the court got to it as soon as they had a chance. There are a few other things they might have been working on first (like murder cases) that have a higher priority than HS football.

Send him to the public school then. But he shouldn't be allowed to play sports.

He would be allowed, no punishment is warranted for not being able to afford an education.
