Because I had heard so much about this 6th grade Tigers team, I wanted to see them play. When my grandson was done with his games, I got an opportunity to watch the tigers play against the wolfpac team(I think). I do not like to steal any teams thunder, but I do not recall any player on the wolfpac team that stood-out from the other players. I do not recall a player scoring 27 points or is it 35 points on that Tigers Team in the G-Town tournament. I do remember the wolfpac team getting a ton of layups because the tiger team looked like they were learning a new defense. However, the only two kids I remember were the Tigers point guard and another Tiger kid that look like he play linebacker for the steelers. I asked my grandson the same question and he could only remember the Tigers point guard(the kid can play). I also recall the tigers being up by 12 or more and than it appears the Tiger coach started working on different defenses and subing in 5 players for 5 players. I truly do not think the Tiger coach was playing just to win. That was obvious. I was also at the Omega Flight game as well. I think it should be told that the Omega team got a BIG break because the Tiger team had to played Back-to-Back games. There was no break between the games. It was like the Tigers played 8 quarters in one game. I do not think the Tiger coach knew they had to play back-to-back because that team played full court pressure man-to-man the hold game before the Omega Game. They also played full court man-to-man in the Omega Game. That Tiger team was extremely exhausted. It was obvious the Tiger Coach was working on developing defensive man-to-man skills. If I was the parents or the coach of these two teams(wolfpac and Omega), I would not compare my competative level against that Tiger team based on those games. This is the first time in a long time I saw a AAU coach put developing his kids ahead of just winning a game. Bragging is sometimes the reason all these AAU coaches run up the scores.

 

I applaud the coach for developing his players but I gotta say when you enter a tournament you better be prepared to try and win. If you aint in it to win it then stay out and play league games or at the rec center.

Next week's games in the 14U SOAS will pit 4 teams that IMO are legit Div 2 teams for the State Tournament. Warriors/Bulls and Wolfpack/Flash in the final Four. Warriors will have their full team when they play the Bulls who seem to be playing some really good ball these days. The Pack are the league champions but will face a very scrappy Flash team led by Max Nussbaum.

Welcome to the site, and Raiderbird is correct--your post will at least draw this one post from me. If you saw the Wolfpack play and didn't see any kids that stood out you need to open your eyes. The Stanley kid is as good as it gets. If the Tigers coach chooses to work on new defenses in a tournament that has teams like Omega and the Wolfpack he deserves to get beat and give up layups. I don't buy that for 1 minute. All those teams were there to compete and win. Furthermore , if an AAU coach enters a tourney and doesn't know they have back to back games - shame on him. Again I don't buy it. The Tigers may well be the better of these three teams, I have no idea--but to explain the results of the G town tourney in this manner is silly.

I know school ball is probably keeping most U13 and U14 teams from playing, but has anyone seen the Legends, Elite, Ville, Truth or Rising Stars play from either age group?

 

Will the Legends be the hands down favorite at U13? How about the Ville at U14?

In 14U, I would think The Ville would be the favorites, followed closely by Ky Elite. The post players are The Ville is the difference between these 2 teams right now. Of course, I know the Elite has yet to play a game, so who knows.

 

In 13U, the Legends will certainly be one of the better teams, but I definitely wouldn't say hands down. You have KY Elite and NKY Tarheels as well. The Elite have 4 kids from the Central KY Warriors (Portwood, Grundy, Green and Johnson), 2 from the Tarheels (McCormick and McNeil) and a 6-7 kid from the Pikeville. And, their roster is not yet complete. I have seen any of these teams play this year, but I think KY Elite is probably the favorite on paper.

Wow--You watched two completely different games than I watched that day. I watched two games that were hard fought to the end. The Tigers had to play hard to the bitter end to beat the Scott County Wolfpack and seem to be in shock when they lost in the finals to Omega. The Northern Kentucky Wolfpack dropped out of the tournament on Sunday.

I'm not sure which games you were watching, but the Tigers never played a full court man 2 man defense for an entire game, any game. I'm not sure why the Tigers don't play man, they play a 1-3-1 half court and full court. They did the same thing last year. With his athletes, man 2 man should be their go to defense.

 

I was at the tournament and saw the games in question. Stanley did score at least 25 points on the Tigers. Omega clearly beat the Tigers, great coaching by the way. The Tigers coach knew he would be playing back to back, the bracket was posted right behind his bench.

 

Omega dissected the 1-3-1 zone and played a solid 2-3 and the Tigers couldn't figure out the defense. By the way, these were some great games to watch!

I agree, kid has moxy and is already logging varsit minutes. I would say he is the top 7th grader in the state at this point at the guard spot. Portwood probably tops at his position. I haven't seen the McNeil kid yet so cant comment on him.

IMO, Hatton at guard. Shane Hall is better than Portwood. McNeil is probably the best shooter (quick release), he can be streaky but when he's on it's lights out.

Its hard for me to say since I have only seen Portwood and Hatton when they were 6th graders 2 years ago.
