My mom is a Republican, who admittedly doesn't pay enough attention to the issues as my Dad and I would like her to. However, going into the debate she was talking about how overwhelmed Palin has seemed.

 

Throughout the course of the debate, she kept saying she was just waiting for her to slip up. Well it didn't happen. Afterwards, she said she didn't think she did a great job, but she now feels comfortable casting her vote for McCain.

 

On a side note, how in the world do you adjust the principle on a home mortgage loan? Biden made a comment about that being part of their platform, and it left me thoroughly confused...

I can agree that she doesn't do as well a job at getting her point across, but I don't care one bit about delivery. I care about the ideas, and the substance.

I wouldn't say she won the debate, but she definitely exceeded expectations. As I said, I have a hard time saying either won.

I did enjoy Palin's minor slip when she referred to Biden as "O'Biden" :lol:

 

The fact that expectations for Palin were so low goes back to my premise that CBS and ABC editors did Palin no favors in how they presented her Gibson and Couric interviews.

 

I'm not suggesting that any candidate in this election is a rocket scientist... but I am suggesting that our mainstream media leans left.

Biden was the clear winner. All Palin could talk about was energy, her short term as governor and a small town mayor. Look at the CNN poll: Biden - 51% Palen 39%. Just watch CNN and watch what the pollers say. She did better than most expected but she didn't out debate Biden. She didn't even know McCain's record and Biden did. Her and McCain aren't even on the same page on some issues and Biden presented a united front. When she couldn't answer a question she always went to energy and Alaska. She still has no clue on some issues but maybe her "good looks" will make up for her deficiencies.

Plain and simple, Sarah Palin won this debate. She made Joe look like he was nervous, always back on his heels and disoriented. He came off looking snide and condescending at times and at other times, just a little bumbling. My favorite Bidenism was when he called the people of Bosnia, "Bosniacs." :lol:

 

Sarah Palin accomplished the one thing she had to do. That was to erase the notion that she's not a viable candidate for the vice-presidency. She did so convincingly. Palin was able to get away from the media-edited interviews and speak directly to the American people on a personal level.

 

Expectations were so low for Sarah Palin, all she had to do was not fail and not fall apart. She just had to hold her own. She not only did that; but it could be argued that she bested Joe Biden in this debate.

I think the CNN poll is scientific. And its results held up on the first debate. And, to be fair, I disagreed with its results on the first debate, so I think it boils down more to content than debate performance. McCain/Palin are in a tough spot with the Bush Administration's legacy.

In contrast, if you watched the post-debate coverage on Fox News, you would get the impression that Palin won. There is no such thing as an unbiased media outlet.

If you watched this debate from start to finish and feel like there was a clear cut winner, then you are just offering up a partisan response for the candidate you are backing.

Yep. It was a push. I voted push - terrible. While I don't think they were terrible, I couldn't bring myself to vote for effective, because I thought they were both average.

 

I side with Palin because my beliefs are more similar to hers. So therefore I like her answers better.

Polls are influenced by poll takers.

 

Frank Luntz had a live focus group on Fox that were 9-to-1 in favor of Palin. Fox has a cell phone poll 86% to 12% in favor of Palin.

 

I think this debate did nothing to sway those who've already made up their minds... and very little to sway those on the fence.

 

Biden didn't do much to help or hurt Obama. I think Palin may have boosted McCain a bit.
