Good analysis. Trinity posting a shutout would be painful to watch...but I wouldn't be a bit surprised.

No, it wouldn't be honorable to forfeit or just show up and get beaten down. THS was giving credit to the X program by predicting a respectable 17-0 outcome.

I hate to disagree - esp. in 'public" but I think a shutout is way too much to ask. I have seen the Tigers several times this year as well - and I believe it is the best they have had in several years. The Rocks are tuff-- but this will be their toughest test. Plus do not ignore the 'revenge motive" --of which they have plenty of.

 

I think it is a "tossup" - or maybe would give a slight edge to X. AFter all --they are #1.

If it were to be a real high scoring game, I like our chances a little. We are designedto score more quickly than the Xaverians, this may be our only edge in this matchup.

I'd love to see a shoot-out. They're always a lot of fun. I'm definitely looking forward to this game.

RP- Scoring quickly helps in some situations, but IF the defense gives a large, clock-burning drive, especially late in the game and with the score close, doesn't that potentially give them the advantage? Previous experience and records should be noted, but in all actuallity have nothing to do with the game (i.e. 2003: T 0-4, and X #1). Having only seen the Cincy X game, I have to give a slight edge to the Rocks, mainly because their defense looked flat-out sick! But, only scoring 3 in the first half gives me worries about the O's too, especially considering the historic reputation of X defenses. As always, hoping for a close and injury-free game. The major issue as has been stated many times for the regular season game beween these two has been that Trinity has not been playing really good defense. The playoff(State games) Trinity has play very sound defense and the games have been very competitive. Trinity seems to be playing better defensively this year heading into what should be the first of two meetings this season. For this reason I see this game being played very close until the end as opposed to the past four years( not counting the 06 game ) when X has totally dominated the line play. T 21-X 14 OT win.

Massey predicts this game to be 29-22 in the favor of the Rocks.

This is really good match up this year with a number of stars on both teams. I too can't wait to see this game.

Expect a pretty wide open offense on X's side with Trinity keeping things closer to the vest. Here's how I see it.

 

Kamber, Galbraith, Hall, and Sears are all pretty solid DBs for St X and T won't have that much time so the shorter dump off passes to Phillips and Carrico are going to the main targets I predict against a LB crew not as quick as last years. Expect the Trinity QB to be pressured as X's DL has a decided advantage and expect Foy to knock down at least 2 passes with him being 6'7 going up against much smaller QB. Foy doesn't have to get to the QB-rather he can just wait for the pass and jump then. It isn't something you see everyday and the Cincy St Defense strength was in the LB crew. Once again, Phillips will be made into a blocker on those deep passes but really dumping it off to him will be to Trinity's favor and he has the potential to run away from a covering LB.

 

When X has the ball, expect them to go four and five wide early and see if Trinity will change up from the defensive scheme from 2 weeks ago. Cincy St X couldn't keep the Trinity DL off Luke Massa who broke his collarbone and continued to play under the barrage of 7 sacks and multiple pressures into bad decisions. One difference is the size of St X's backs. While Neal is not that big, Finch and Beach are monsters that can be used in the helping in pass protection or lead blockers on running plays. The difference in the size of the blocking back will allow Brutscher the time to test Trinity deep away from Messina. It is not any secret that Trinity will bring safetys up for run support but expect Bauscher the TE or Goodwin to be the intended receiver deep middle. The difference this year is not the plays called but the hands on their quick receivers and TE. I haven't seen more than 1 drop this year while the Tigers averaged 3 a game last year.

 

Expect play action to Finch and quick passes into Whiting's zone as he blitzes. Also expect a lot of the runs to Whiting's side with 6'6 320 pound Harvey providing the double team and Beach kicking out the end. As to Finch's speed, don't think that foot speed makes Deuce the running back. It is ability to read blocks and cut off them. Speed and size makes this matchup the interesting one as to who walks away with the win.

 

Special teams- Last year X dominated with Chase Carraro and field position in the regular season game. Z had a bad game but expect the Rocks to be solid.

Understand that both teams don't punt alot but with Buehner back punting, expect a fake just like Whiting will run the fake punt for T.

Prediction: Cameron Smyth is a capable QB who knows the Rock offense inside and out. He is capable of creating big plays. If allowed time, the Rocks can get to 21. It won't be enough.
