I feel a one loss SEC team is better than an undefeated PSU. I love Paterno, but he doesnt have to put up with the talent SEC coaches have to week in and week out.

 

I agree. A one loss SEC team should have the opportunity to play for the championship but, if USC and a Big Ten team(PSU/Wisc) go undefeated, the Big Ten team will go. Thats just a reality imo. I dont think it will work out that way though. Also, lets dont count out Oklahoma and/or Mizzou or even possibly Texas out of their conference. Its really gonna be interesting to see the way this thing plays out!:thumb::thumb:

Why did your Gators give up 550 yards to Michigan a slow Big 10 team who couldn't score a TD on OSU at home?

 

You forgot to mention Penn State the featured team of this thread in the above list who runs... the Spread HD offense.

 

You SEC guys will bash the Big 10 for another year or so but they are making the change that you won't like.

 

Not making excuses but Michigan was not healthy against OSU and for most of the season last year. They were healthy against Fla. That team way underachieved last year and was far from being slow. I agree however that the Big 10 is not as slow as percieved. I for one would love to see some of the southern teams come to AA, Columbus, Happy Valley or Madison in late November and see how fast they look.

 

This is why OSU scheduled teams like Troy and Ohio U this year, they run spread offenses.

I thought it was really funny as well watching Appy State run it in Michigan. After Appy State I would assume many smaller schools will run the spread. If you have a good mobile QB, WR's who can run routes, and an offense that can execute its timing, you have a chance to beat any team as long as your D can hold them some. If you wanna come watch my 5th/6th grade team Wednesday night, the team we are facing runs a spread. I will get you in on me. The spread is the thing now. You can get more kids playing time, the kids like doing it, and it is very hard to defend even with a smart zone D.

Or it could be that the Big 10 conference has been a power conference for as long as anyone can remember. I will let you decide. Same reason why there RB's who go to the NFL are usually beat to death and don't last.

 

So once again are you saying that the Big 10 coaches just aren't as smart as the other coaches? I mean seems kind of dumb to me, that the coaches would just stick with being power, even though what might have been best was switching to the spread. So sticking with tradition, over what is best for you players, don't seem that smart to me. :sssh:

 

Just face it for the last few years the Big 10 has just been very down. Usually when they play a top team from another conference they have been losing. Michigan really has the only real good win lately outside of their conference when they beat Florida. IMO the only reason they pulled that off was because they played really inspired ball that day for their coach since it was his last game.

 

I don't know why you try to defend it right now, because you really don't have much of an argument. The players are either just not fast enough to keep up with the speed of other top teams, or well they just don't have as good as coaches, since they wanted to stick with power. Either way the Big 10 lately has just not been that good overall.

To go with this though I actually run the spread offense with the 7th and 8th grade team I coach.

What 2 teams beat them?

 

I don't know which games they'll actually lose. I'm just confident they'll lose at least two times.

 

All their road games are potential losses (@ Purdue, @ Wisconsin, @ Ohio State, @ Iowa). Illinois and Michigan State aren't gimmes in Happy Valley. And who knows what Michigan will look like in another month?

Absolutely Penn State should be considered in the NC title talk. They still have some tough road games in the Big Ten, but there speed at the skill positions is something to keep an eye on.

Stop trying to defend the Big Ten at every opportunity. The Big Ten is bad, again this year. They can not compete on the big state with the big boys. They should play teams of their competition like Troy and Ohio. End of story.

It had nothing to do with this thread though. It seems every time someone says anything about the Big Ten being down, which there is no way anyone can deny, you come back and attack Louisville or another posters favorite team. I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I just don't get it. :confused:

Could be interesting, not sure I see Penn State going undefeated though.
