Trinity is clearly the heavy weight in KY. Lou X is a strong #2 though. KY football in Louisville can compete with the OH guys. Outside of that I am not real sure. Highlands is usually pretty strong but with very minimal success in OH and Cardinal Mooney reminded us a few weeks ago there are some mean teams in OH even with Cincy X probably being over-rated.

When Cincinnati St. X came out on the field at Papa John's the other night, it's the first time in my memory (and I'm in my mid-50s) that I can ever remember an opponent of T or Lou X coming out that had bigger players and a larger number of players than the local team. And Trinity effectively controlled the game and won with a strong effort. So I don't think "numbers" can be the reason. I think it's called teamwork, heart and efficiency. Or, as the decal on the Trinity helmet states, Discipline, Pride, Loyalty and Achievement.

I'll speak for Trinity. I think there are three factors. The first is coaching. I really believe that Trinity has the best staff in Kentucky. Second is feeder schools. The Catholic schools in Kentucky play on high quality teams with good coaches from a young age. That enables the Trinity coaches to start teaching kids at a higher level than coaches that are forced to teach kids things that a lot of the Trinity kids learned in grade school. Third is size. Trinity is bigger and that helps.

Numbers provide an advantage to start with but you still have to take those athletes and mold them into something special.

I respect the comments on my post asking for feedback. My son went to Male and played there ending in the 06 season so I was at most practices for four years and I also saw "teamwork, heart, efficiency, the golden helmet that stated Discipline, pride, loyalty, and achievment. I also firmly believe that all thru Kentucky you will see the same for most schools.

 

Feeder system/coaches are two really good points and that does carry a lot of the reasons the kids have the chance to learn football early and the right way.

 

Now numbers do mean a lot too, and how you can get these numbers is also a factor that I'll choose to let it go, because it has been discussed a lot and I don't want to go there. Good Luck at Eastern on Friday and I'm going to the game.

I have a hard time believing that Trinity wins 18 state titles in DI Ohio...

 

I also have a hard time believing that there aren't other schools in the state of KY that have "Discipline, Pride, Loyalty and Achievement".

While I agree that numbers do have a big impact on this, I find it hard to believe that there aren't other factors at play.

 

What Trinity is doing right now in KY (regarding how many recent big-school state titles they have won, plus the big wins over Ohio champ Elder (2002) and defending Ohio champ Saint Xavier (this year) I believe is unprecedently in this state, and I have a feeling that the "numbers" advantage is only one of many pieces in place for Trinity.

 

If Louisville Saint Xavier knocks off Trinity in the next few weeks, I am sure that this thread will be brought back up as evidence that Trinity is not all that. But if Trinity wins another title this year (going through a St. X team that some BGP'ers have called one of their most well-rounded squads ever), then Trinity deserves to be referred to as a KY football "superpower" with teams like Saint X, Male, Highlands, Manual, LexCath, CovCath, etc. being state "powers."

It will be in large part due to the fact that they are matched closely, size wise.

 

No doubt that there are other factors. A continued winning tradition is one of them. But, they can't say they are the only team(s) in KY with tradition, numbers, pride, coaching, athletes, work ethic...etc.
