This what a Cincy X fan posted on Yappi: "X just got outcoached. I've never seen Specht pull out the old Marvin Lewis technique of just throwing your hands up in the air when your players don't do their assignments. He was frustrated. Every "out" he went to was subsequently destroyed by Trinity.

 

Personally, I have NEVER seen such a well oiled machine on both offense and defense besides De Lasalle in 2006 and the late great 04 team from Colerain. They were doing things on defense I have never even seen before and I am big into the X's and O's, all the way from gradeschool ball up to the pro's. All the motions, the presnap formation shifts, and simply breaking the huddle and lining up in what seemed milliseconds just proved to be too "advanced" for X. It seemed like a giant was controlling the Shamrocks on Madden 2007 with all the shifting and movements, I am dead serious.

 

I'm not ashamed to say that either. Yea, I would've like to have seen a different outcome but that team was dang good, they belong in the top 10 in the nation and I bet they end up there at the end of the season, no team should beat them in KY. Based on pure, raw athletic talent, I think both teams were about even...just Trinity used their athletes in a much more efficient and well coached manner.

 

Insofar as consistently matching up KY elite every year with Ohio, give me a break. There are only a few states in the country that could consistently matchup with Ohio's elite and KY is not one of those two to three states."

Why is X/Rocks so much better than the other Kentucky teams?

 

I have some thoughts, but want to read some others first.

 

I will start with dedication from the young men, the staff, the school, and their community. Most of our boys grow up knowing they are going to play for Trinity. Next, comes a lot of our hard work and preparation. To be fair there are certainly a lot of other programs that work really hard. I just know what we do 11 1/2 months a year. Next is our coaching. I would put our entire staff up to any in our region as far as skill and total ability.

How can anybody deny it is not a numbers game?? It's common sense to me..You get to choose from alot more kids to get that 28 that played...We play in 5A where it isn't as big a deal as it is in 6A or D1 in Ohio..There is no roof on your house...

Isn't Highlands a 3A team playing in 5A? How do they manage against those teams with superior numbers?

FYI, Trinity checks in at #24 in the USA Today Super 25 index...

Yeah good try. Should be the other way around. X is the team to beat this year. Check out other threads extolling the virtues of the; tandem running backs, new and improved qb, the passing game, the rock-wall defense. Here is to hoping the Rock's just make it competitive next week.

Jim, seriously...I expect a good game between X and T as often is the case. Both look very strong. The difference is that X has not been tested. T took on Cincy X and came away with a convincing win and a national ranking. I have to give the edge to T based on strength of defense.

I agree with what you posted but had to respond to part I bolded. I could be very wrong but it is my understanding that public schools (Louisville) can't go and get donations/raise money to update facilities on a specific sport. If I remember correctly, a couple of years ago there was a person (that was in the construction business) that wanted to build a field house at Seneca. JCPS told them that they could give them the money and they would take care of it.

 

I did not know that. Sounds like an issue with JCPS and not the private schools. I would argue that is a disadvantage brought on by the JCPS administrators. Kind of ironic, but this discussion is leaning towards another forum so I will leave it at that.
