Wow! Trinity just slapped around the defending Ohio Division I state champion (and national champion, per some 2007 polls), a team that has beaten a few "national powers" this year. Add this to the fact that they beat Cincy Elder a few years back, with Elder then going on to win state in Ohio, plus the fact that Trinity has recently been so dominant in Class 6A (old Class 4A) KY prep football, and everything adds up to Trinity being the clear-cut King of Bluegrass prep football, PERIOD!

 

Congratulations to Trinity... the Trinity program most certainly deserves to be called a "national power."

Trinity I'd say if you had to compile a list a Nationwide Powers Trinity is definitely a top 25. They may even be a top 10-15.

 

The same could be said about Highlands. I'd say over all Trinity has fielded better teams as of late, but Highlands as far as success goes, has done pretty well for themselves as well.

This subject gives me pause. Is Kentucky football really that far behind Ohio, or has Kentucky narrowed the gap? I know that football as a whole in both states has not been tested across the board, but it seems that the gap is not as wide as it once was.

Unfortunately, I just think that T, X, and Highlands are heads and shoulders above the rest. Every once in a while some teams (Male, Manual, CovCath, LexCath, or a few others) get to be that competitive, but KY is just top heavy.

 

You may be right about Southern Ohio, but Cincy isn't the only dominant Ohio football area, their top teams reign from their multiple metropolitan area.

Yeah, KY is just top heavy. Cleveland, for example has some amazing teams every year to add to the talent Cincy has... Glenville HS and St Ignatius just to name a few. Akron always has strong teams as well (Garfield, Butchel etc)

In my opinon, in the last ten years both Trinity and St X have risen there games considerably. The T and X teams of the 90's wouldn't stand a chance agaisnt these current squads. They are physically more impressive and offensively more aggressive along with maintaining a very strong team structure has made them both national powers. I don't think we can make the leap that the rest of the state has come along with them. But these two programs are very very good.

I know that Ohio has more teams at the top then Kentucky, but all in all I think Kentucky has closed the gap.

Of course Ohio is going to have more teams of the T and X caliber since Ohio has 10-12 million people to Kentucky's 3 million. However, no single program in Ohio is better or stronger or more capable of competing with the best from anywhere than T and X.

You must be from Northern Kentucky. Louisville St X is the KING in Louisville. Trinity is never rated as No 1 in the Litkenhouse ratings. I think they were No. 4 as of yesterday. Louisville St. X is, of course, No 1.

Well as we saw last night, rankings don't mean anything and will never mean anything. Also Louisville X does not play any teams with the caliber of Cincy X.

There is still a long way to go; but I think this is clearly a shot over the bow of the Ohio boys. I think you will see much more iterstate parody in the near future. And maybe...just maybe...Highlands can finally get over that peak that they've come ever so close to on multiple occasions.

I believe outside of the Lorenzen and Gino days, H has been a very good program. Obviously. The teams that contained the former quarterbacks were great, beyond great. However, Trinity compared to Highlands this year, hmm... I know nothing about T, this year, but I am sure they are a couple touchdowns better. Both will most likely play in the Pizza Box in December, unless St. X has a say in it...
