Unless Ashland can prove that they can pass the ball better than they have been, I will have to take Russell

I would agree with you that Ashland has the fastest one player on the field. I'm not so sure that man for man that Ashland will have an advantage in that area unless thay had a lot of transfers in from last years team. They may although. I'm sure you would not have made that statement without watching both teams play. Don't underestimate Boyd County. When Ashland plays Boyd County, BC will have the Best player on the field. I can assure you of that. I have seen both teams play.

Yes, I did see both teams play. If Boyd Co. could catch the balls that were thrown they would have beat Russell. And yes, Russell has a good team. Ashland's D is really good. Unless Russell can spread Ashland out on D it will be a long night. And yes, Ashland passing is not there. They need to throw the short pass to Carter and the tight end I think his name is Bonner. Boyd's D was not that good. Russell's D is not as good Like the Russell D in the past. So like I said before Ashland by 14. Again I don't care who win. Good luck to both teams. Plus it is at Paul Blazer.

Quite a bit of wishful thinking from the Ram faithful in this thread.

Russell 28-23.

Ashland is probably better than they were last year. Russell has reloaded, as usual. Ashland has played 3 tough games and have improved and Russell has played lesser competition (in comparison to Ashland's schedule) and are really untested. With this game being played at Putnam with a chance for win #600 in their storied program, I have to give the edge to Ashland.

Haven't seen Ashland since the Raceland game, but Raceland and Russell aren't that different. Both have great running backs, solid quarterbacks, and tough lines. Raceland played a lot of power running against Ashland and the Tomcats didn't have much of an answer. Had Raceland held on to the ball (and stuck with the power running game IMO) they would have easily beat the Tomcats. If Russell doesn't make many mistakes (and they usually don't) I forsee a Red Devil victory.

I had completely forgot about that (win #600) I certainly hope that the Tomcats get it Friday night. Should their defense be able to contain Russells power running attack I believe that they will.

If all Ashland tries to do is stop the power run game. This game will be over in short fashion.

I dont think it would of been a blow out be Ironton dropped 2 touchdown passes and it didnt have to do with Ashlands D either. Ironton should of won by 21.

I also agree that Russell is going to score alot of ponts and hopefully Ashland can do the same but the Ashland coaches have to put the players in a position to win....

Yet you voted for Ashland?

I think that Russell has a slight advantage in this one. Expect to see a heavy dose of Abrams from the Red Devils, and I just don't think Ashland will be able to stop it. With the game being in Putnam, I think it will be close. However, I still see the quarterback position as a problem for the Tomcats. I would not be surprised if we see more than one quarterback this Friday night.

... I believe that Ashland's players will be up for this game just like the Russell players will. Anyone who makes the statement "we will win" or words to that effect need to look back at just how close these two have battled over the past ten years. Even last year when Ashland had a below average team they still competed with Russell to the end...

I agree with this statement - AND it has been pretty rare for either team to “blow out” the other. This will be a hotly contested rivalry game – one which the favorite doesn’t always win.

I think Russell is the favorite – as the poll indicates. However, I think Ashland will get the upset this year. I’d be happy with a 3 point triple OT win like the last time we played at Putnam Stadium.

Have they moved the game to Paul Blazer?

Russell will do what it does game after game and year after year. WIN. The best Football tradition in Northeast Kentucky.

My Russell football schedule has Ashland (A) on it.
