Painter, you attempt to compare Russell's allowance of points with Ashlands, stating there is but one point differnce. Have you looked into when most of those points allowed by Russell were made? Many of our sophomores and Freshmen have had playing time against our opponents varsity players. For example, the game against West Carter, they scored their sole touchdown late in the game against our much younger kids. As I recall most of our younger kids played against Greenup's varsity. I don't think the scoring against Ashland was against your younger kids. So, if you want to make true comparisons, please compare the same things...

My comparison was simply based on total points allowed by both teams. It’s a generally accepted common denominator when looking at a team’s statistics, and one which typically has relevance. Russell has the advantage of playing in a district which allows them the luxury of getting underclassmen valuable playing experience. Games are usually neatly tucked away by the 3rd quarter. As for whether or not I have “looked into most of those points allowed by Russell”, well, no…you have me there. I haven’t taken the time to analyze film of either the Red Devil or Ashland JV and freshman squads.

Anyway…that’s my observation and I’m sticking with it. The difference between points allowed by both teams is one point less than a touchdown, or…five points. I hope the Tomcats can keep your 1st string players on the field a little longer this Friday. In the meantime Devilmom…thanks for providing me with the opportunity to clarify…and, could you rustle up some brownies for the ballgame?

So, When did Boyd County become a poor or weak team? They are ranked #6 in the super seven with Russell @ 2 and Ashland @ 4. Russell has always played Ashland, Boyd and Greenup every year for that reason, to improve their strength of schedule. So I guess Ashland is the next "weak" opponent on the Russell Schedule. Greenup is also on Ashland's schedule just not so early, and I think it will be a battle with the game being decided within the last 8 minutes of the game. Russell 28 - Ashland 21.

reconsidered.

Wow, what a game. I would love to be at this one, gotta go with the Red Devils in this one.

I played for Russell as a 4 year starter in the late 80's. Ashland beat us twice and we beat them twice. Ashland has always been a measuring stone for Russell. It is the one game on the schedule year end and year out you don't know who is going to win, but that's what is so great about the game. There is alot of people and teams out there that does'nt like Russell, but that's what makes us ( THE RUSSELL RED DEVILS ) every team real wants to beat us bad. We have a great program at Russell starting when your 5 years old and it builds from there. I remember walking down the stairs at the game going on the field for the coin toss and a bunch of kids ran up to me and said I going to play on this field someday. I looked at him and said yes you are little man. He said remember my name it's Eric Day and my friend is Matt Niece. Two pretty good running backs full of proud for there devils.

I truely hope this is a great game and nobody gets hurt. Good luck to both teams and win or lose go Devils.

You have to excuse him, he gets excited. He's like a pit bull on a short leash with a large Russell steak just out of reach.

I guess we are going to have to feed him one more time before the Russell game.

 Just cut off the food around a week and a half before the game. :D

Honestly, Raceland has quite a few games and really more important games before Russell and I won't think about Russell untill that week and will have forgotten about it and getting ready for last week and then the playoffs.........Much more imortant things than Russell for our team to concern themselves with between now and then and again after.

Well you are about the only one in Raceland. I think every single person I have ran into from Raceland has talked about how bad they are going to beat us this year. Just like we hear every other year. (I try to tell them I no longer play and have no involvement in the outcome of the game)

As for the game Russell may have an Ace up their sleeve for Friday.

From what I have read on BGP, it’s the Russell fans who keep interjecting themselves in these various threads about games between other teams. It’s entertaining so keep it up guys:D…but I seriously doubt you will find a single Raceland fan/player/coach who is even remotely thinking about the Raceland vs Russell game this week...there will be a time for that later in October.

You guys are trying (real hard) to involve Raceland into your rival game. We have a rival game to worry about (Fairview). As for the comment regarding everyone but oldrambler in Raceland thinking that we WILL beat Russell this year.......please. I have only heard of a few that think we can compete this year. Remember, this game is played by young men on the field, not by us "used to be's" on the computer.

Good luck to both Ashland and Russell and no injuries!!!!!

No, I really am not. Every now and then they just like to humor people.

As for the ace up Rusells sleeve, are you thinking that Ashland won't have one or two or three etc.,etc., ........ as well?:D. Should that be what you are thinking I would venture to guess that is wrong.;)

No this is quite different. Although it is still in question of whether or not it will come in to play this Friday.
