Not that I am aware of. He didn't suffer an injury against WC. So if it has happened it has been during practice this week. I'd say this is mostly rumor, if anything he may just have some soreness from running all over everyone.

I cannot verify it (from Russell), but a Russell student told this to a friend at Raceland and it has spread. I was just checking to see if you guys had heard it. I don't want anyone hurt. I want all the area teams at 100% all year.

...Russell definitely has the advantage from a coaching standpoint, and I expect the Devils to come away with another victory.

Speaking of coaches…Ivan McGlone is the reigning king of our area coaches and has perfected a juggernaut of a system while at Russell. At the beginning of the 2008 season, Coach McGlone was listed as the 10th winningest h.s. football coach in the Commonwealth with a record of 276 – 120 spanning 32 seasons. This stat does not include McGlone’s 4 year (28 – 20 – 3) stint with Huntington Vinson either. A win this Friday night will move him into a tie for the 9th spot with former Paintsville coach, Walter Brugh (no longer active).

FWIW, the top of this coaches list for all time wins is Bob Schneider of NCC with a record of 325 – 175 (start of the 08 season). Coach Schneider is amazingly in his 43rd season and counting.

Congratulations are commonplace when referring to Coach McGlone for this accomplishment. I seriously doubt he is even aware of things like overall wins and losses, but as a fan of high school football, it’s great to have such a coaching icon in our area…except when he adds to his notoriety by beating my Tomcats. Does anyone know what Coach McGlone’s W/L record is against Ashland?

Sounds like a good source.

Sounds like it (Ashland freshman QB Hunter) is in the advantage of Russell.

Is there any area in which Russell would not have the advantage over Ashland (other than playing this game at Putnam)??

Is there any area in which Russell would not have the advantage over Ashland (other than playing this game at Putnam)??

I don't know lets look at it.

QB advantage Russell

Backfield advantage Russell

Recievers advantage Russell

Oline slight advantage Ashland

Dline slight advantage Ashland

Linebackers advantage Russell

DB's advantage Russell

Kickers advantage Russell

Special team returns advantage Russell

Seems like Ashland might have an advantage on the line, that could be argued though.

I think the fans at Ashland show more class than anyone, does that count?

(sigh) Now I’m really depressed. It looks like Ashland simply doesn’t have a chance. We should probably play the game anyway though.;)

I’m heading over to Putnam to hang out for awhile today...I need to get my enthusiasm factor recharged.

In the meantime…here is an interesting but useless tidbit: The winner of Ashland/Russell games 6 out of the last 10 years has ended the game with 28 points. During that time span, only once did the victor exceed this 28 point total and that was an Ashland win 33 – 14 in 2003. At least in terms of averages…it looks like 28 is the magical number.

Good luck to the Tomcats and May both teams stay injury free.

I can certainly see where you are suffering from the depression Painter . Wow, has your A.D. called and forfieted the game yet? :scared: Maybe he should, after all we have just gotten word in an earlier post from the major authority on high school football that according to the matchups that Ashland has no chance. I mean, maybe you should call all the Tomcat faithful and let them know to not waste their time or money on showing up. Not to mention the Tomcat players......maybe they won't want to show up either.

Oh Wait!! We have breaking news.......This game is played on the field on Friday night! Who knew?

I thought that it was already decided. I guess that one was the "on paper" bowl and the actual game is yet to be played.

Man, you guys sure got lucky there. Whew!

(Painter, please let me know if you or any of the Tomcats will be in need of professional help and counseling over these revelations and/or the outcome of this game. Should any of you be too weak or emotionally torn to dial a phone for help I will call the proper authorities for you.:D)

All I can say is.......:thumb::thumb:

Does this make him a good quarterback?

No it doesn't. But it shows the confidence that the Ashland coaching staff, either in football or baseball, has in this young man. He's going to be something special. Also, in baseball he was tested early by going against one of the top teams in the state, Apollo. I believe that he only gave up four runs. Not bad for an eighth grader. Good luck Sam and all the other Tomcats.

Ashland wins at home in the lucky horseshoe

21 Ashland

17 Russel

"Oh my God, Magnum!".....couldn't resist:laugh: Welcome, rookie. I hope you enjoy BGP!!!!

Welcome to BGP Magnum. :thumb:

Can't believe that the thread is quiet with a quaterback change in the making. I'm curious, will starting a freshman quarterback give Ashland a better chance to win?
