What you are describing is an Andre Woodson clone.

So will I, but Newton already moves better than Woodson.

With all the positives about Newton that have been noted I did also notice a few negatives worth mentioning:

 

1. Locking on receivers.... he had at least three passes that should have been intercepted from simply locking on his receiver and not checking down. two the defenders dropped, one he short armed.

 

2. 3rd/4th Down Decisions... I dont know if this was Netwon or their head coach. But trailing 14-7 with the momentum slipping away facing a 3rd and considerable yardage Newton opts to throw a 3 yard passin the middle of the field. Maybe he didn't have anyone open, but he wasn't pressured and had plenty of time. I also remember a 4th down deep in the opponents territory when he has a huge gap to scramble and pick up the first, but instead hesitates as he steps up to the LOS still looking for a receiver, and by the time he realizes his position the defense had collapsed.

 

3. Wobbly ball on short passes.... more than once when he had to gun a short route to thread the needle it seemed his ball became quite wobbly which A) Makes it more difficult for the receiver to catch B) Servely depletes his strength on the throw

 

Maybe I am nitpicking, but it is worth noting.

This thread was mean't for Mossakowski and Hartline but alot of people think Newton is better than Mossakowski. IMO I do think Newton is better and more of play maker just because of his speed, size and strength. I think this kid could get up to 230-240 lbs, or even bigger, with his 6'5 frame by the time of his senior year. I can see Newton doing some big things in the SEC before his time is done.

 

I don't think Newton is better or Moss is worse. I just think Moss has an option outside of football for the Cats. If Hartline wins the job (I think a seasoned QB can beat out a freshman 9 times out of 10) I can't see Joker or Brooks going to a true frosh next year unless the kid is lights out. While both are great prospects, neither kid is a sure thing. Someone will have to redshirt unless Hartline can't win the job outright next year.

Without starting a holy war, Andre had a lot of these issues as a prepster. He turned out just fine. That said, I think both will show up on campus next year, if not, it shows a character flaw, in not wanting to compete for the job.

But Newton's just in high school himself. There aren't too many HS seniors, who haven't even started their HS season eyt, that look ready to compete in the SEC. Patience.

Mossakowski has openly said he is 100% committed to UK and will be coming here next season.

 

But the $$$ from MLB draft next year might convince him otherwise.

A friend with ties to UK was told that Moss could be a millionaire after next years major league baseball draft. If he plays football he is 100% committed to UK.

Very true!

It's way too early to even think realistically about what will happen a year from now. You never know how long it will take for a player to grasp the college game no matter how much hype they get. It took Woodson 3 or 4 games into his redshirt Junior year before he really clicked. I believe if Hartline performs he will be the QB for 3 years. If he doesn't click it may be Cobb, who knows. It will take till the end of this current season before the picture even remotely begins to clear. I am just glad we have this problem on which to speculate.:thumb:

But the kid is currently only in high school. If you don't think he'll get better in college and thus be better equipped to face the SEC schools, I think you're wrong. There are very, very few athletes that due to additional maturing, conditioning and coaching given them in college, don't improve athletically when they go to college. And that improvement does include speed. I saw Clyde's comment about what he'll face from all 11 in college. I think one needs to keep in mind that the other 10 players he'll play with in college also will be much better than the other 10 players he's playing with in high school.
