August 22, 200818 yr -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UofL Release: Fans are encouraged to wear red to Louisville's nationally televised showdown with Kentucky on August 31 as the Cards will look to "Red Out the Wildcats" at 3:30 p.m. at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. In advance of the event, Cardinal Fans are encouraged to support their local U of L retailers for game day merchandise for the game, which will be televised nationally by ESPN. Last season, U of L hosted a "BlackOut" promotion as the Cards knocked off Rutgers 41-38 in front of a national television audience on ESPN. U of L also hosted a "Black Out" in 2006 - a 44-34 win over No. 3 West Virgina. I am sorry UL fans but this may be the single dumbest idea for one of these "Black Out" "White Out" games of all time! First of all, the general rule of thumb is to use a color which is NOT your school's primary color. Every game should be a "Red Out"! Secondly, just like the UK/UL game last year and just like it has been all the years before... there will be a very large portion of the visitors fans, much moreso than most home games. Additionally, most home games the visiting fans will only be relegated to one particular area of the stadium, in this matchup there will be pockets of blue scattered throughout, enough that it will definately alter the look of what is typically achieved. Someone at UL deserves a written moron citation for this one!
August 22, 200818 yr USF is planning a Green Out for the Kansas game. Environmentally correct, don't you think?
August 22, 200818 yr For the most part I agree with your sentiment. I do think it looks better if everyone is wearing the same color. For example when half the stadium are wearing white shirts with the UofL logo on them, it isn't the same as a seas of red like you get at Nebraska. It is effective in selling "(name the color) Out" T-shirts so the athletic department uses it as a financial gimmick.
August 22, 200818 yr It's almost a guarantee that it will be really hot on August 31. I understand not wearing black, but I would think you would want to "white-out" for the UK game just because it would be a cooler color to wear.

August 23, 200818 yr The White/Black Outs that UofL has been having the last few years have been awesome but this is just not a good idea. Wrong game, wrong color, all of it.
August 23, 200818 yr Who cares? I guess anything to pick fun at... That is what I am thinking... It is is a gimmick for tv. Get over it!! What happens in the stands makes no difference...the score at the end of the game does.
August 23, 200818 yr Wouldn't a "white out" match UK's road uni's? That is probably why they didn't choose to wear white. Therefore looking like the stadium was for the team in white (ie..UK).

August 23, 200818 yr From the Louisville home games I watched last season, it seemed like they had a lot of "red outs." Of course those were empty seats.:sssh:

August 23, 200818 yr Pretty silly IMO... "Hey fans, lets all wear out team colors to the game!" Why not just do that anyway on principal?
