I noticed in ESPN The Magazine's college football preview that UL has the lowest percentage of total tickets allotted to the students in the Big East at only 8%. By contrast WVU has 21% of their tickets allotted to students. That would mean that less than 3400 of the fans at a sellout are UL students. That has to hurt the enthusiasm of the crowd. What is the reason for this? Is UL a "suitcase" college full of commuters or can they not afford to make those tickets available with their low seating capacity?

The student seating/ticketing has always annoyed me very much at UofL, football and especially basketball. There's nothing like getting tickets for a UofL bball game 3 rows from the back looking down at the lower level of the arena and seeing 10,000 red sweater vests.

That's what I was wondering, whether it was a limit on the student tickets or a lack of on-campus support. I know that UL has a great fan base but I didn't know if they had it was more of a commuter school. Hopefully with the expansions the students will get more tickets. The students are infinately louder than the sweater vests!

Trust me, it's not a lack of support, students are doing everything they can to get tickets and the University simply isn't doing anything to help them. I have yet to meet another student going to the game on Sunday...

That's pretty sad, if the students can't even get tickets to the game.

It's pretty ridiculous, has been ever since i started at UofL... Not only are tickets hard to get, even for students, but the student section is a joke...It's in the upper level of the stadium. IMO, the students and band need to be in the Crunch Zone, right behind the goal post. That would make it even louder than it already is at the end of the field.

Does anyone know what the plans are after expansion. Will the students get a larger % of tickets than currently.

I would assume they will but I'm sure they'll still stick them in the upper deck with no resemblance of a true student section.

Yeah, I can see that. Not making excuses but it is a smaller arena. Hopefully the new arena will help. I'm a True Blue UK fan but if we can't win I always root for my home state, then my team's conference. I'm all for UL having a great team and losing to UK each time they play--lol. I really hope that UL gives the students the chance to support their team.

UofL is very much a commuter school, especially when compared to a school like UK.

I would be nice to see them adopt a more student friendly ticket policy. At Notre Dame all students who want tickets are guarenteed a seat to all home games. About 15% of the stadium is student seating which is about the same amount as enrollment in the University. The students also get a large part of the 5,000 tickets that Notre Dame gets for each away game.

 

Obviously not ever school can put the students first as Notre Dame does. It wouldn't work at Ohio State and many others.

^ Schools like Notre Dame, and Duke (basketball), etc...had those traditions in place, long before the big $'s of today became involved, they can't just throw those traditions out....U of L does give their students a pretty good spot to watch the games, I would look for the student section to stay in the same place, all the while, increasing in size UP as the stadium does so as well.

The biggest factor isn't tradition. Tradition pales compared to dollar signs. ND and Duke charge what, 3 or 4 times the tuition that UL does? They can afford to give up those seats. Especially in Duke's case, they have a much smaller student population.
