July 31, 200818 yr Listening to the Herd... he is spanning the globe. He just talked to a reporter from Chicago that said he thinks Nick Swisher may be part of the deal. Other outlets are speculating that Brian Anderson will be coming Cincy's way. I feel like a player is coming, because it is being reported on WLW that the Reds will be eating a lot of the money.
July 31, 200818 yr Let me be the first to predict that, if this deal gets done, Griff will go on a TEAR!!!
July 31, 200818 yr I hate to see Jr. go. He has been one of my all-time favorite players since he came up. Jr has always played the right way. His multiple injuries have mostly came from going all out on D in CF. Jr is in the middle of an 11 game hitting streak right now, I know his stats for the season aren't where he or we would like them to be. There are only two RF's in the national league that have driven in more runs than JR this year and only three with more HR's. So while he may not be putting up his HoF numbers of the past, Jr is still a productive player. I hope that he has much success with the W/Sox or where ever he ends up.
July 31, 200818 yr Isn't it the manager's job to motivate his players? If not, what are they there for? The manager sucks too and is known as a "friend" of the veterans.
July 31, 200818 yr Let me be the first to predict that, if this deal gets done, Griff will go on a TEAR!!! I'd be willing to bet he ends up with somewhere between 25-30 HRs and 80-90 RBI if the deal is made.... The only thing that really sucks about all this, is now I have to shell out another $100 or so to get me a Griffey ChiSox jersey. I have the Mariners one, I have the Reds one, so it's only fitting.
July 31, 200818 yr Author Listening to the Herd... he is spanning the globe. I'd be very surprised if the Reds were able to land either one of those players, but I would take them.
July 31, 200818 yr It is not necessarily his job to motivate, but his status as a veteran should make him a leader. He is not. He lolly-gags and gets away with it. If he can other players see that...they will follow his lead. He is not a bad person, but he certainly is not a leader and will not push anyone. He gets criticized and then fires off a f-bomb and throat slash....stay hot #3. My points exactly. If you come up to the league as a young guy and grew up idolizing Griffey do you look up to and try to act like someone like Griffey or someone like Keppinger?
July 31, 200818 yr I'd be willing to bet he ends up with somewhere between 25-30 HRs and 80-90 RBI if the deal is made.... I'd be willing to book that bet.
July 31, 200818 yr I'd be willing to book that bet. You realize all he has to do is average 5 HRs and 14 RBI a month for the final 2 months to hit those ranges right?
July 31, 200818 yr Let me be the first to predict that, if this deal gets done, Griff will go on a TEAR!!! Where the buffets in Chicago?
July 31, 200818 yr Apparently 3-4 years of playing poorly and being injured wasn't enough to get him gone- but have been that throat slash......
July 31, 200818 yr Author You realize all he has to do is average 5 HRs and 14 RBI a month for the final 2 months to hit those ranges right? He's only averaged 3.75 HR's and 13 .25 RBI's thru the first 4 months, so it's not a given.
July 31, 200818 yr Author Where the buffets in Chicago? No a hamstring. I kid. I really do like Griffey Jr., but I hope this trade goes down.
