What part of 51-58 makes them good?

 

At their age, it's not fair to compare him to guys like Bruce, Keppinger and Votto. But, whatever it takes to make you think this would be a bad thing is fine by me...

That's the other thing. It's awful trying to convince people that guys like Marino could be the best ever, even though they didn't win anything. Especially in a team sport...

For me, it has nothing to do with Jr.. I simply want the Reds to turn the page, free up some $, let Walt do his thing and have some new faces in here come next spring along with the youngsters who have already made an impact so that next year there's a remote possibility that we're not having this discussion in this forum about something very similar.

 

I wish Jr. all the luck in the world if he leaves. Heck, I played against him when we were teenagers. I think he's the best player I've ever seen and it's really fairly easy to make that argument. I hope that the Sox win it all and he gets a ring. But first, I'm a Reds fan and his subtraction is our addition IMO.

If over 600 HRs is your definition of a bad ballplayer, I'd love to see what you think a good one is.

 

I don't think anyone will deny that Jr, was once a great ballplayer but the 600HR you refer to has nothing to do with his production in a Reds uni. The Reds fans have only got to see a blurr of what Griffey used to be. As a Red, JR. was not a very good player and at times seemed to not give 100%. It is hard to pinpoint the reasons why but I will say injuries may have been a factor.

Unloading his salary will be worth the trade and it will be interesting to see the reaction from his new skipper when Jr. does his best impression of "Jr. being Jr".

For me, it has nothing to do with Jr.. He's deserves to play for a contending team and Cinci needs to free up $ and think about 2009!

2009 will be the year that the rookies will move Griffey out and it looks like their might be position changes as well.

If Jocketty can pull this off, kudos to him. Even if they only get Chet Lemon and his old style Black Bike Coaching Shorts that the Pale Hose used for uniforms, years ago.

Griffey is one of the greatest ever, but the last couple of years he has dragged down the team and clubhouse.

This is one reason I have come full circle on Dunn. I think with stronger leadership in the clubhouse, Dunn would become a better player. Griffey is not going to push Dunn to become a better player. You just arent going to find a replacement for him on the market.

 

Not to hi-jack a thread, but I would like to see Reds try an pick off Juan Pierre from the Dodgers for a reliever, or even send Fogg to Colorado for say, Scott Posednek. Looking for a CF...not sure about the health of either player...just thinking out loud.

Is Griffey of the mindset that he would accept a possible platoon situation in Chicago? Especially after being handed a full-time role and the #3 slot in the lineup this year by Dusty?

I think we'll find out based on his approval of the trade. If he approves it, he's fine with possibly platooning. If he doesn't approve it, he's...um...comfortable...

I'm not sure what labs thinks, but I think that if you surround Dunn w/ young players who are hungry and who aren't as laid back as Griffey Dunn becomes a little bit of a different player.

Now he barely beats him in and if an outfielder makes the last out they toss it around to each other instead of sprinting back. Griffey's attitude rubs off on young players, rightfully so since he's a first ballot hall of famer.

Isn't it the manager's job to motivate his players? If not, what are they there for?
