June 12, 200818 yr My father died a few years ago when I was a Junior in H.S. I'll probably just visit his grave site.
June 12, 200818 yr My dad passed away in November of 06. We had some great times together hunting and fishing and sitting next to the radio listening to Marty & Joe. In his honor I will spend Fathers Day at our lake house on Cave Run, while doing a little fishing, listening to the Reds on radio and remembering how special he was to our family and everyone that knew him. RIP Pop's and Happy Father's Day. We'll walk together again someday!!!
June 12, 200818 yr What do all of you fathers want for Father's day? I still need to think of something smart to get. I too, would like to know. He already has plenty of golf shirts, golf balls, and clothes.
June 12, 200818 yr My Dad passed away in 83' and I still miss him every day. All of the times that we spent hunting and fishing will never be replaced and will always be wih me. Untill a few years ago when it became more and more difficult for me to get out and go, every time that I would catch a fish or make a kill on an animal whether it be squirrel, rabbit, deer or whatever I would just look to the sky and give him a wink. Thanks Dad, I love you.
June 12, 200818 yr What do all of you fathers want for Father's day? I still need to think of something smart to get. I like new ties. Last year they all put their handprints in white paint on a black tie, and I wear that from time to time. I like homemade cards out of crayon and glue from the kids. Mrs. Hearsay makes a dish once a year called Eden Isle Chicken which is out of this world, and some pretty fine blackberry cobbler. They also clean out my car and get it spruced up, which can be a chore.
June 12, 200818 yr My dad just died April 25th after an unfortunately short battle with pancreatic cancer. I really miss him this summer because he should be attending our summer baseball games. Going through some old pictures is both fun and very sad. Seeing him in pictures where he's young breaks my heart. Who knows that their life will end at the age of 68? For something different for your dad, put together a neat collage of pictures in a nice frame for him. Everyone likes looking at pictures and reminiscing about past times and events. Right now pictures are all I have of my dad. Kind of a shame . . . . Sorry to hear about that, coopers.
June 12, 200818 yr My dad passed away in 1978, he was only 58. Some days it seems like forever that I've seen him and other days it seems like yesterday. He was a fun and wonderful dad. He was the one who taught me to drive. I will never forget as I was trying my best not to hit the pot holes in the road, he said, "Honey, try aiming for them maybe you'll miss them". Sure enough his advice helped. This year as in all the years since 1979, I'll be getting him flowers. I love you Dad and always will.
June 13, 200818 yr My Dad passed away 5 years ago very suddenly at age 56. I usually stay FAR away from cemetery on Father's Day. Going to church on Father's Day is equally as tough but I keep myself busy while I am there to keep my mind off of it. Last year they convinced me to get up and read something about what my Dad meant to me during the service and that was the hardest thing I've ever done. The first couple of years we didn't really acknowledge Father's Day. But as my kids have gotten older they get excited about it. So it makes the day easier the older they get. As for what I want? I ALWAYS got my Dad golf balls and he loved that because he never had to buy any. But I don't golf. This year I asked for a cheap bass guitar because I want to learn the play bass. But I doubt I'll get that. It really doesn't matter because whatever I get will be awesome because its from my kids! It's truly the thought that counts!
June 13, 200818 yr Last year my son surprised me with a CD he created of the music my friends and I used to listen to "back in the day". I listen to that CD more and more these days. This year I received my gift a little early, you see in April my Son passed away suddenly. A few weeks ago the school called me to pick up his personal effects, files and artwork. Among his writing portfolio the teachers & counselors had discovered an inspiration piece he had submitted earlier this year. My Son wrote about the close relationship we shared and the love he had for me. He is an amazing Son, I miss him dearly.

June 13, 200818 yr I wish my dad were still around to celebrate Fathers Day with. It's been 6 years this past March. I encourage everyone that still has their father with them here on earth to spend some quality time with their dad on Fathers Day. I agree. I lost mine 15 years ago.
June 13, 200818 yr This has become a very moving and poignant thread. I will cherish my father even more during our outing this Sunday.

Our birthdays were a week apart,so we always got out the weekend between and had a steak the way we both liked them...rare. Enjoy your dads while you have them here, and pass what you learned from them onto your own kids. That always keeps a part of them alive.
