^ It's an allstar game.. For fun..

I know this might not be a very popular opinion since everyone reading this thread loves to see/talk football 12 months per year, but I think this is one game that needs not to be played. Taking two groups of young men that have'nt played a game of football for at least 6 months and having them play after a handful of practices seems silly. Anybody else agree or am I out there alone on this one.

Does anyone know the reason why Ludlow had no representation in the game?

I do not like the idea of a quota system that puts a player on an all star team just because his school needs to be represented. All Star Games should be played by the players that have proven themselves to be All Stars.

Unless you're going to have a panel of experts (and I'm not sure they exist) pick the teams, you have to go this route.

I talked to a few of the Ludlow seniors this weekend and they said that Coach Borchers asked every senior to play. They chose not to play because of other reasons. I am sure that Hamilton Joe will have some crazy reason on how this was all Borchers fault but after talking to the seniors this had nothing to do with it. In fact I asked them what they thought of Coach Borchers leaving and everyone I talked with was dissappointed that he was going. I see where you are trying to go with this HJ and you are totally wrong so just let it go. Your obsession with Coach Borchers, Highfield and the rest of the Ludlow administration needs to stop.

If every senior was asked and chose not to play then shame on them. Why would you NOT want to represent your school and community?

I'm told from my very reliable source that there were four practices. Some players skipped one practice for a senior school event. I have a lot of questions. Why would you not use the Holmes QB on some roll outs and have him run the ball? That would have been a great idea on the goal line. Why did Kyle Furnish not run the ball as he knew the system and ran pretty well for CovCath? Why did the CovCath coaches not learn from the Beechwood game? Sounds like the repeated the same mistakes on first and goal as the Tigers did under the lights in Park Hills.

 

Ball ran a lot and very well.

 

A kid from Dayton and Newport had multiple carries.

 

Furnisch did indeed have carries and caught a few screens.

 

Palmer from Holmes caught several balls; a kid from Campbell caught several balls; Casson from CCH caught several; Detmer caught a couple before he was hurt; Miller from Holmes ran a reverse; Bricking completed a lot of passes.

 

Only so many people can touch the ball; I bet fewer players from the West touched it than from the East!!!!!

No score through three quarters in an all star game. Ryan Ball featured back and did not run the ball much all year. Bricking only QB and threw four interceptions. How'd I do on those facts?

The East offense went up and down the field and outgained the West; the West did little outside of 3 long passes.

 

Ryan Ball had been a running back his entire career until last year and still returned punts, and he rushed for well over 150 yards in the all star game, and was voted the offensive MVP by the coaches. As the Guru mentioned, Molony came down with mono.

 

Bricking was the only QB; the staff did not get to pick or recruit their roster; there was not another passer on the roster; (Miller was one of only 3 CBs and Cecil missed a lot due to running in the state track meet);Bricking also threw 2 TD passes and completed close to 20 balls.

Is Clay Cecil not a qb???? I would think in an all-star game you would rather have a dual threat qb.. Especially if you were limited in the amount of practices that you had....JMO...

Looks like this thread is quickly coming to a close. For whatever reasons (which will never be resolved on here) the East didn't practice much. I'm told there were only 4 scheduled practices. Why there wasn't more who knows. And at this point, who cares. The game is over. Congrats to all the kids that played in the game. It may not have worked out the way some wanted it to, but that's life and its only an all star game anyway. Best of luck to all the kids that choose to play with their college and other endeavors.

I agree with Cecil being the QB and using multiple Qb's. (Miller, Cecil, Bricking), but in 06 the east squad used Diehl as their only QB the whole game.
