It pretty much boils down to UL not getting their way and they don't like it. I look forward to reading some more boastful comments on here from the Cardinal folk, much like we read last year about how Louisville was going to wax UK and how Louisville would get better as the season went on. I think there was a thread somewhere on the comments. The other poster said it best. It doesn't matter the date and time. If it's something other than what Louisville came up with, there's going to be a tantrum.

Louisville came up with? No, ESPN came up with it, offered the game one of their premier slots for the year. The one that had belonged to Miami and Florida St for years, and for this year at least is going to belong to Tennessee and UCLA.

In theory you are right. To re-iterate, you like to claim to be a U of L fan, though your posts prove you are not. But, August, in Louisville, is horrendous, with our peak temperatures coming between the 3-4 pm hours. Great job Mitch. UK has stuck their noses up for the last time. UK has shown cowardice in this series, knowing that Louisville has to have this OOC game on their resume. Hardly anybody else will play them.

 

Yes,I am right! This time allows for tailgating to begin around noon and with the game ending around 6:45 allows for a little post game partying, wait for traffic to thin out and everyone still gets home at a decent hour. Sleep in the next day have a BBQ and watch UT-UCLA on the tube and you are ready to get back to work on Tuesday. With the exception of the very first UK-UL game at PJCS I don't recall the weather being too hot. I will be for UK in this game and I will be tailgating with my UL friends who will expect nothing less. I think everyone will be fine with a few cold beverages. Mitch did the right thing IMO.

Louisville has to have this OOC game on their resume. Hardly anybody else will play them.

 

 

Yet most UofL fans continue to berate UK on here. At least UK plays them. Kentucky really doesn't need this game on their schedule. They could just as easily schedule a much easier opponent, and it wouldn't affect them one bit from a recruiting stand point. So why continue with all the negativity toward Kentucky about when this game is played?

While that may be a bit harsh, the last time I checked, this is a RIVALRY. We're not supposed to be sending each other Christmas cards and candy.

I'm going to try to take the high road and say both programs are to blame. It is a .. contest and neither is going to back down. The problem goes beyond the football field + a time slot. I think they both stood their ground but in the end neither team is getting the exposure football wise that a lot of fans hope for. I personally feel like KY gets plenty of exposure playing Fla,LSU,Geor,Tenn+UofL that they don't have to cave in and take a game on a wacky night for college football. UofL has made it a pain for UK to play basketball in Louisville which is where the whole contest happened. In the end neither AD was going to back down and I can respect that. As a fan I would MUCH rather the game be on Sunday because most have Monday off to recupe. If it's on Mon then good luck at work the next day. My biggest gripe about the whole thing is the time slot. My experiences tailgaiting at UofL at that time of day reminds me of waking up the next morning after the first day of Spring Break in college (everybody is sunburned something awful trying to figure out what happened:)

As someone above stated, this seems like a great time of the day for a game in that you have time to tailgate, then get home at a decent hour after the game. Couldn't be any better.

Have you been to PJCS in August? I assure you, Louisville would prefer a night game every time thy host it.

For the record, UCLA and Tennessee scooped up the Labor Day game.

Maybe I'm a little slow, but I just don't see the big deal in all of this. UK isn't lacking for television exposure, IMO. They typically have several nationally televised games, along with several regional broadcasts...which basically covers the areas where they're going to make any headway in recruiting. Winning is the most important thing...do that and the rest will take care of itself.

 

In any case, it's not worth the "end of the age", "sky is falling" outcry that it's brought on. Personally, I think it would have been cool to see UK vs. U of L on the Monday night primetime slot, but if UK, for whatever reason wasn't comfortable or didn't want to do it, then that's that. End of story as far as I'm concerned...it just doesn't matter to me when this game is played. I'm just glad the two schools are playing each other annually and I hope it continues.

Becasuse I actually think not playing Louisville would hurt UK, that's the only thing holding this together. Kids out in the state grow up KY fans, and want to play for UK, with that they also want to beat up on Louisville. Without that chance, they could simply move on to something else.
