I'll be honest. I wasn't a fan of the idea of the region being somewhere other than the Fieldhouse but figured what's done is done and I might as well go in with an open mind.

 

Really the place couldn't have possibly been more hospitable, as far as everyone I dealt with. They went above and beyond in trying to get my wireless set up which ended up most likely being a problem with my computer. Due to me dealing with computer problems I didn't have a chance to make it to the hospitality room but I heard it's one of the best spreads in the recent history of hospitality rooms.

 

If I have a critique, it comes back to basics and I feel like in the original plans they could have sacrificed some aesthetics to put more butts in seats but we've been over that too many times. Basically I say so far so good.

BUT, 5:00 games at Mason inconvenienced GRC and Montgomery.

 

5:00 games at Montgomery inconvenience, Scott, Calvary Christian, Campbell, Brossart, Silver Grove, Pendleton, Deming, Bracken, Augusta, St. Patrick and Mason County.

 

There is a big difference in inconveniencing the fan base of two schools and the fan base of 11 schools.

 

I didn't realize that all 11 of those schools made the Regional Tournament.

Seriously the gym is state of the art, very nice facilities throughout, but the space is limited.

Is there a such thing as visitors side and home side at Montgomery Co. I see the signs but I guess at Mount Sterling those two words are defined differently. Lets see if Pendleton Fans experience the same as most. :lol:

How many times have you seen at Mason Co. that the Royals ever sat on the visiting bench or their crowd sat on the visiting side of the gym when the tournament was held at the Fieldhouse?

 

Montgomery Co. was the visiting team tonight and they didn't sit on their "traditional" home bench as in the regular season and their crowd sat on what was designated as the visiting side of the gym. I can't remember how many times in years past I've heard Mason Co. fans complain about fans sitting in "their" seats.

 

Thank God that Montgomery Co. is treating the tournament as if it is being held at a neutral site even though it is their home court. You still have to play the games but it just seems like Mason Co. loves being catered too.

 

I think Mr. Hester is a great person but I've even heard him say in years past, our fans are so accustomed to seating on the home side? What's that all about? You're hosting a neutral tournament and if you are the visiting team on the scoreboard you need to sit on the visiting bench and your fans need to sit on the visiting side, bottom line.

 

Maybe Mason Co. can take some notes for future tournaments.

 

Oh and about the difference in parking, the one advantage at Mason Co. is that you can get a 10pc. chicken meal at Lee's to eat on your long walk to the gym from your parking space. Haha!

I was really interested to see how everybody would react to the site change. Mainly Mason County fans. I have not been surprised at the overwhelming negative comments. I just hope when Clark County builds its new school and hosts the tourney in about 3 or 4 years that we can all except that change is not bad. Oh and by the way, its gonna happen.

After reading some of the sarcastic remarks on this thread, some good natured fun toung in cheek stuff, some not, I have a real question for our fellow posters from the 40th District. What would have happened if the vote would have been 2 to 2? Who would have the tie breaking vote and is there a rule in place for this scenario? Fixing to make the trip Sat. weather permitting and know a good time will be had by all.

I know one group that is satisfied, Estill Co!!!!!!! We drove to Mason Co for 27 years. Not necessarily happy to be out of the 10th, just happy to be where things are more equitable. No one seemed to care that our kids got home at 1:30 in the morning. When you travel that far, regardless; you're at a disadvantage. Montgomery will run a great tournament. A new tradition will dawn and things will become a bit more equal.

 

And it would be even worse for you when it comes to NKY. When the Estill County girls played in the semis and finals when it was at Campbell County Middle School, they spent the night at a hotel in NKY instead of driving back to Irvine, getting home around 1:00, being at school the next morning and then heading back to Alexandria.

 

Unfortunately, the cheerleaders and band couldn't do that and after their game on Monday night, had to head back to Irvine, go to school and then head back to Alexandria for Tuesday night game. Bet there was some good learning going on Wednesday morning.

Man oh man I never realized how hard people are to accept change! I have been to many games in both Mason and Montgomery county and I must say Montgomery is a nicer facility. The tradition is nice but sometimes you must break tradition and use common sense. I sat at the Scott- Mason game and had no idea what the score was the whole game because I couldn't see the score board at all. Don't even try to get something to eat at halftime in Mason County, not gonna happen. The only advantage I see is the ability to hold more people in Mason County. But with the drive it becomes a non-factor because most casual fans from Mason won't make the drive.
