For all those worried about getting a ticket, I heard them announce at the Clark vs Campbell game that tickets could be bought at GRC for the next game - I assume all schools still participating will have tickets available at their school for advance purchase - this does not mean a reserved seat though.

I bought my tickets at GRC last Thursday.

The argument of the hosting is old...get over it...

Actually some of the local businesses are wiring money to us so we can bring a decent crowd to fill the so called "palace." After the Wednesday and Thursday's sessions the businesses in Mt.Sterling are really going to have to step up to the plate and replace the gate money lost to participating schools. What a shame.... and to beat all the snowstorm expected is going to push games back until the first of the week which will hurt attendance as well. DIG DEEP!!!

 

That is what Mason county is all about the MONEY, Montgomery just wanted everyone to have an enjoyable time and not to worry about the money, plus not have to walk for 3 miles to get in the gym.

All in all, with this being their first attempt at hosting such an event, I think the administration at Montgomery Co. did an outstanding job and should be commended for putting on a great tournament. :thumb:

No, I was using that as an extra draw for the "casual fans". I was saying casual fans will come wherever the tourny is at, not just in Maysville.

 

I guess I was right about the Lexington area draw of people.... I"m sure Joe, Ramel, Derek, Jodie and whoever else was there would have came all the way to Mason Co.

Only thing I would suggest if they get to hold the region again would be to open up the doors a bit earlier than an hour before tip off.:ylsuper:

Mason Co had big crowds when it was at Mason, but I was dissappointed the night they played us, they had alot of empty seats and the student sections was almost non-existant. It does make a difference when you have to travel...one of the home court advantages.

I don't think this was proved. Games during the middle of the week vs the games being on the weekend is not a true comparison. Play the final game on Saturday night and many would have been turned away. I can not see how people can not see this. The crowds at Mason exceeded the capacity of Montgomery Co. gym. This just shows that having the tournament at Mont. caused the overall attendance to be down. Proof is in the pudding. For the record I do not care who holds the tournament. If I really wanted to attend I would be there no matter what the driving distance is.

I live in Alexandria, and I went to the Campbell-Clark game and to the Pendleton-Montgomery game. It took me an hour and twenty minutes to get to Montgomery County. Straight down 27 to Paris and 460 to Mt. Sterling. 78 miles one way. It takes me around fifty to fifty-five minutes to Mason County Fieldhouse, I have more side roads to travel to get to the AA highway. So there is only about a half an hour differance for Campbell Co. to go to either place. It sems to me that there has been more complaints from the Mason Co. area than any where else. That being said I really like the Fieldhouse.

I don't understand this either. I haven't seen one comment on BGP where people from Mt. Sterling or Winchester are complaining about having to drive to Alexandria for the girls' tournament. Maybe people from NKY are just bigger crybabies...:cry: :sssh:

I posted this eariler to show that by giving the hosting school their home side all the time, their fans think they own those seats....even when their team isn't playing.

 

I think that when Mason hosts the tourney again, that they could take some tips on what Maontgomery Co has done this year. I do hope that Montgomery Co will reconsider the time they are opening the doors to get into the games. I feel that 1 hour before the game is too late and could cause some problems. Mason Co opened the doors for the final last year at 12:30...game at 3:00. I feel that both schools could learn from each other. I hope that is what we all want is a great regional tourney, for teams and fans.

 

 

I really can't believe that no one else has pointed this out yet, but here goes. The sides were switched to SUIT MONTGOMERY CO. They went in as a district loser AND they were in the bottom bracket. Which made them the visiting team. THEY ALWAYS SAT on their HOME side. Surely it is not that difficult to figure out. The only thing that was switched was the student section which was moved from the end. They did the exact same thing as everyone has been bashing Mason Co for.:irked:

Montgomery is in and it is a great thing! Let them all in if they can prove they have the facilities to host it as Montgomery did. Great tourney and get over it!

After reading post for the past year about Montgomery hosting the tournament, I was very relieved that when I opened my eyes the next morning the sun still rose. You would have thought the world was coming to an end by comments that were made in numerous threads that have been on this topic. Next year, if I'm lucky, I will be driving to Northern Kentucky to watch the Regional there. Congrats Mason Co. and good luck at state.
