Who knows, when the next realignment takes place, GRC and Montgomery both might be opposite of Mason County and then all this discussion will be over and non existent. I am really confused by the discussion of where the crowd sits, and Montgomery sitting on the visitors side? I was over watching the game the Montgomery County girls played against Highlands on a Saturday in the Kentucky Preps Classic and Montgomery fans were positioned in the same place as they were the other night when they played Pendleton. Montgomery was the home team against Highlands. I am really confused after reading all of this.

Here's the deal.....for the regular season, Montgomery Co. fans sat on the side opposite the benches and scorers table. The Montgomery Co. students' section was in the lower endzone. In the post season, beginning with the district tournament, they decided to designate the side with the benches and scorers table as the home side and the opposite side as the visitors' side. They also decided to place the home team's student section behind the home bench with the visitor's students directly across the gym. The primary reason for the change was so that every school throughout the district and regional tournaments would have an equal space for the student sections. They didn't feel that it would be fair for the home team's students to occupy the endzone section, which is much larger. This is why during the district, Montgomery's fans sat on the same side as the benches, the team sat on the home bench, and Montgomery's students sat behind the home bench. During the district, Montgomery was the #1 seed and was the home team in both games. As the district runner-up, Montgomery was the visitor in the first round of the regional tournament, and therefore their fans and students sat on the visitors' side and the team sat on the visitors' bench.

I just hope Sugar Daddy takes advantage of these extra three days and points out every despicable thing there is about Mt. Sterling. I am just about convinced that it is the worst place in the state.

If any of you have ever played in a Regional Tournament game you would know that having your team sit on the "Visitors" section at the Fieldhouse is the obvious advantage because A) you have unobstructed view B) more lower level seats and C) your student section is literally standing on the floor in the corner (yelling and screaming) wheras the Mason Co. student section is back behind the bench...

 

Mason Co. keeps their fans on the "Home" side in order to be better hosts. They used to swap benches, however, some teams complained that they did not like sitting behind the Mason cheering section so they graciously honor that request.

That's not a valid reason, that's an excuse. The regional tournament is neutral and should be treated as such, even when you are the host school. Mason Co. has bucked the notion of changing sides and benches to satisfy their own comfort level.

 

Mason Co. has down a great job in hosting the event in the past and will do so in the future, but they haven't always done things the "right" way. I've enjoyed the tournament thus far this year and I'm sure I will in the future, because I for one like the excitement of the event and the players and coaches of the games. :argue:

I had forgot , but my son reminded me this morning that during the Scott vs GRC game last year, we were setting behind our bench...Mason Co home side....a old woman hit my son with her purse because he stood up and cheering for the Cards. Yes she was a Mason Co fan...and those were her regular seats.

 

I posted this eariler to show that by giving the hosting school their home side all the time, their fans think they own those seats....even when their team isn't playing.

 

I think that when Mason hosts the tourney again, that they could take some tips on what Maontgomery Co has done this year. I do hope that Montgomery Co will reconsider the time they are opening the doors to get into the games. I feel that 1 hour before the game is too late and could cause some problems. Mason Co opened the doors for the final last year at 12:30...game at 3:00. I feel that both schools could learn from each other. I hope that is what we all want is a great regional tourney, for teams and fans.

I dont look for the crowd to be as big this year. Bad weather, high gas prices, longer drive for everyone, people afraid they cant get in the gym and people who cant get off work because of the game time changes will cut down on the crowd. Seating may not be a problem afterall. Time will tell. A hope those people with the deep pockets pay up to keep the schools from being the big losers.

I REALLY don't like the fact that the Scott / Montgomery County game is at 8:30. Not very good for a school night and some kids that will be on buses for about two hours on the way home...

I know how you feel. We have faced this situtation when the tourney was at Mason Co. It was a 1 1/2 hour trip for us. Estill Co, when in the 10th also experienced this problem, at least a 2 hour trip for them. This is why I am in favor of rotating the tourney....not the same schools every year will have the long bus ride and others no bus ride at all.

People have been posting for months that Mt. Sterling businesses have promised to make up the "presumed" shortfall from the tourney.

 

I can't imagine this being further from the truth. While it may seem reasonable this could happen, there are many unknowns. Such as weather, the tourney could have less attendance at Mason Co. just as easy as Mt. Stelring. So what amount would a business be responsible to make up. Last years profit, a three year average?

 

Lets remember the distict voted for the location. Do you actually believe Montgomery Co. had to cut a financial deal in order to host the sacred 10th region tourney?

For all those worried about getting a ticket, I heard them announce at the Clark vs Campbell game that tickets could be bought at GRC for the next game - I assume all schools still participating will have tickets available at their school for advance purchase - this does not mean a reserved seat though.
