10th Region Tourney Host

Featured Replies

Pendleton was 7-20, there was no drama to be had. No anticipation on anyones part. This game was over when the bus pulled out of Pendleton Co.

Don't get me wrong... loved the team and your coach. But, the average fan wasn't going to leave their house for this one.

the average fan might come out if the game is only a few minutes away... as the Mason Co fans have for years. Mason co, howvever, has rarely had an "average" team.

Right, I'm certain the fieldhouse would have been packed out for Mason v. Deming.

Obviously, Montgomery fans are not average. We weren't going to spend 2 hours and $5 to watch a 20 loss team, even if our home boys were playing them. Unless you are a parent, what was the point in watching.

I did watch it. It looked like a 20 win team beating a 20 loss team. Much like everyone expected.

Hilltopper2005 I dont recall Mason Fans sitting in the middle of Montgomery Co Fan Base so lets not go there. Thats why there are signs when u enter that state MOntgomery to the left and Mason to the right lets follow them please if both teams advance to the finals. Regardless if your the home or visiting team sit in your GROUP. Montgomery fans have the privilage to take whichever side they want regardless of their status of being the home or visiting team. The point is when we Mason fans walk in and see a sign stating Mason to the left we expect to find seats in our section. During the regular season game that wasnt the case it was more Montgomery Fans sitting amongst our supporters on the side that was designated for VISITORS. Other then that pretty nice tourney so far !!!!

That would seem to be the average Montgomery County fan if Pendleton drew as close to Montgomery as is being reported on here.

And btw, you are making the point for the region tournament NOT to be in Mt. Sterling. There are more average fans closer to Maysville than closer to Montgomery County. Considering the 37th, 38th and 39th districts are all closer to the Maysville.:thumb:

There are not any seat numbers on the tickets so there are no designated seats. I'm sure if you pay your five dollars and the only seats available are on the opposing side you would sit there. And to say that Mason's fans don't do it is ridiculous because two years ago there were Mason fan's sitting in GRC's student section in the region final. I didn't have a problem with that though because they payed their five dollars just like I did.

What about people that just like good basketball? It's not like basketball is more important in Northern Kentucky. Fans around Lexington would love to come see their future wild cat in action but would not make the drive if it was at Mason. The casual fans will come no matter where the sites at.

Totally disagree with the bolded. The committed fan will but not the casual fan.

And for the record when it is in NKY and 20 minutes from my house, I will be having the same point that it shouldn't be in NKY and so far of a drive for the fans of the 40th district.

Lexington has nothing to do with this as they are not in the 10th region. If you are going to bring them into the debate, well, then you are leaving the poor people in Ohio out that would have come to Maysville.

Put the Montgomery County gym in Cynthiana and that would be the very best location and where it should be held. As close to the center as possible so that it is accessible without a major inconvenience for all.

You are not understanding me at all. What I mean is there will be casual fans all over the place. Yes, there will be some fans that live near the Maysville area that would go to the game if at Mason Co. but not at Mount Sterling. Well can things not be reversed? There are fans from Montgomery and Clark along with Bourbon that would come to these games here but not in Mason Co. It equals out. And you cannot compare Lexington to Ohio. Ohio has their own tournament and can visit that and would have no care of the 10th region. People around the Lexington area could be interested in seeing a future wildcat in Darius Miller, so that would attract more casual fans.:thumb:

The people with the big bucks better be ready to pay up. Bad weather conditions and a location to far away from most schools and others who think they can't get in the gym may make for a low turn out. Have not seen any ib crowds yet!

Did the Fieldhouse have big first round turn outs? That's what I thought.

There have been two pretty good crowds out of the 4 games so far.

GRC - Campbell was a pretty good crowd

Montgomery - Pendleton was a pretty good crowd

Mason - Deming and Scott - Augusta were pretty weak numbers.

Maybe it's just that the MCHS Arena is so big the crowds just look small.

I think Montgomery Co. is doing an excellent job of hosting the tournament. They really got my respect by sitting on the visitor bench and having the MC crowd sitting on the visitors side. You would never see Mason Co. move their fans to the other side. Through the first round a very classy operation. Keep up the good work!

Actually some of the local businesses are wiring money to us so we can bring a decent crowd to fill the so called "palace." After the Wednesday and Thursday's sessions the businesses in Mt.Sterling are really going to have to step up to the plate and replace the gate money lost to participating schools. What a shame.... and to beat all the snowstorm expected is going to push games back until the first of the week which will hurt attendance as well. DIG DEEP!!!

:D That's some funny stuff right there. Don't forget we are heading toward a recession too.

Most of the Mason Co. didn't want to make the drive to see them play Deming, but I'll bet that the crowd will be bigger against Clark Co.
