March 9, 200818 yr I-275 between the Colerain and Reed Hartman exits were interesting yesterday at about 12pm. Saw a guy lose control of his vehicle and it went straight into one of those light posts, knocking it over. I pulled over to make sure the guy was OK. Left when the police showed up about 10 minutes later. F-350 work truck handled it quite well.
March 9, 200818 yr About 5''-6'' in Cynthiana, although I did have a few spots in my yard of about 10''.
March 9, 200818 yr Here we are in Kentucky, nearly in the middle of March. It's 12 degrees outside, as I type this. Some areas nearby have a foot of snow on the ground. Only a few weeks ago, we were all worried about global warming. Geez, Al Gores' light bulbs must REALLY work!!!!!!
March 9, 200818 yr My experience has not been as trying as yours, I must admit, and no offense taken. I may yet call this my adopted hometown, but I'd like to be here a bit more than just nine months to make sure. If your friend was going toward Lexington, however, it may have been a good idea to stop here. Tons of wrecks out on the parkway with all the sleet/freezing rain we've gotten. Should've given 'em my number and they could've stopped by for a drink and saved money on a hotel room. Yeah, I guess you have had room to move around and such since you have been there, unlike someone else. Plus, from day 1 it really just wasnt my type of place. I'm happy to be back in my comfort zone. Yeah, he said they stopped at exit 25 and stayed at one of them there. Said cars were everywhere and they didnt want to end up in a ditch or the median for the rest of the night. He said he'd have rather spent 40 bucks on a hotel room than end up like that or having to pay to fix his car. Probably was a good call from the sounds of things.
March 9, 200818 yr Well, I was able to get out easily without the need for any jerry-rigged snowshovels, fortunately. There was only about 4 inches of snow on top of about 1/2 inch of ice on the driveway, but my car handles well in inclement weather, despite the need for new front tires. Visited a buddy in Frankfort, and the BG Parkway was mostly clear, but there were a couple of bad patches where there were drifts. City streets in Bardstown and the Cap City were clear. Had to run out and check my front grill to make sure the bird I drilled on the way back wasn't still lodged somewhere on my car. The casualty was one of what seemed like three to four dozen  avian losses strewn lifeless along the sides and scattered over the middle of the 34-mile stretch of highway. After I got my kill, about five minutes later a guy in front of me shredded one. I even saw what looked like a buzzard-burger on the side of the road where it got ground up by a semi, apparently. One of the strangest things I'd ever seen, and my profession has afforded me opportunities to see many, many odd occurances. It's like the dumb beasts were a step slow, or just spooked by the snow. They hung out alongside and in the road (traffic was relatively light today) eating God knows what. Salt from the plow trucks, I suppose. They didn't have that extra gear that blackbirds and robins possess that let they dart out of the way with ease. I just barely missed half a dozen more. Anybody know anything about birds and what would cause them to act so erratic? In that recent movie that is destined to become a classic:D, the Earth's core stops spinning, causing birds to lose their sense of navigation.
March 9, 200818 yr I think we ended up with about 4 inches in Lexington. We took a little "adventure" to IHOP this morning and by the time we left there all the roads were fine. We ended up going to a local golf course and sledding tonight after a trip to Pazzo's. Business as usual in Lexington...

March 9, 200818 yr The streets in F.T are in great shape. It's been a great day for kids to make some cash shoveling or blowing the snow. Our son made over $400 today alone. He has 4 more that called tonight "hiring" him to come by tomorrow to clear them out. Nice weekend for teenage cash if your willing to do it. Birdhustle you should have put an AD in the BGP thread and I would have buzzed him. I got some good excersise but man it wipes you out when its 10 inches deep and wet on the bottom. $400 to a teenager is some major greenbacks. Any plans with the dough?

Most of it will be deposited in the bank tomorrow. The rest will no doubt accompany him to Florida over spring break. As I've always said, "this is a very generous community. He earned it though, 7 hours yesterday and 3+ today.
March 9, 200818 yr We got about 1 to 2 inches of pure ice, then about 4 or 5 more inches of powder show on top of that. The roads were horrible. I tried going up a hill, got stuck, and had to back all the way down the hill again.
March 10, 200818 yr I hate to say it, but I bet my Dad is wall-to-wall busy today, the first day back in his chiropractic office after a huge snowstorm. The fortune-teller in me foresees my mom and dad taking a trip to the Belterra sometime later this week ... and tonight wouldn't surprise me!
March 10, 200818 yr I was in the Lexington area this morning and was surprised that there were school closings. There isn't any snow there.
