The Blizzard of '08

Cabin fever is killing me. I'm going to have to get out and go somewhere -- if I can get out of my driveway. I'll have to look around the garage and see what I can modify into a snowshovel.

Well, I was able to get out easily without the need for any jerry-rigged snowshovels, fortunately. There was only about 4 inches of snow on top of about 1/2 inch of ice on the driveway, but my car handles well in inclement weather, despite the need for new front tires. Visited a buddy in Frankfort, and the BG Parkway was mostly clear, but there were a couple of bad patches where there were drifts. City streets in Bardstown and the Cap City were clear.

Had to run out and check my front grill to make sure the bird I drilled on the way back wasn't still lodged somewhere on my car. The casualty was one of what seemed like three to four dozen  avian losses strewn lifeless along the sides and scattered over the middle of the 34-mile stretch of highway. After I got my kill, about five minutes later a guy in front of me shredded one. I even saw what looked like a buzzard-burger on the side of the road where it got ground up by a semi, apparently.

One of the strangest things I'd ever seen, and my profession has afforded me opportunities to see many, many odd occurances.

It's like the dumb beasts were a step slow, or just spooked by the snow. They hung out alongside and in the road (traffic was relatively light today) eating God knows what. Salt from the plow trucks, I suppose. They didn't have that extra gear that blackbirds and robins possess that let they dart out of the way with ease. I just barely missed half a dozen more.

Anybody know anything about birds and what would cause them to act so erratic?

Anyone been out recently? I'm debating on running down to the store, but Kenton County is still under a Level III. Surprisingly, our street is clear.

Go to the store if you need to.

I agree its fine out. I was just over at Doe Run going sledding and there are plenty of people out and no one is getting pulled over and we had a covington cop driving right by us. You will be fine.

One of our city salt-truck drivers is a sadistic jerk -- or maybe just an idiot!

We had our driveway cleared, and our next door neighbor's driveway cleared. There was a large pile of snow in the gutter between the two. This goofball makes a special effort to swing over into the gutter, and then proceeds to plow that whole pile right into our driveway! And there was absolutely no reason to do it. What a maroon. :madman:

So if you're the snow-plow guy in the south end of town...yeah, I'm talkin' to you!

Think I met him on Beechwood Ave . Almost plowed me under at my son's house:irked:.

Then they've changed the level. Otherwise, he would NOT be fine.

I'm going to try to get to Kroger's in the morning. The pizza that I finally got was great and yummy but paying $35 for a large 5-topping pizza, two steak hoagies, and a "free" cheesy bread can't last long. Altogether it was just over $28 with a 2-liter of Coke and the usual delivery charges but I felt bad for the folks that have to deliver in this weather and I made the tip and original charges to total $35 (the guy got close to a $6.50 tip for me).

And for those that are wondering, no I didn't eat all of that in one sitting.....LOL. I've still got the entire pizza and a hoagie that I've put in the fridge so I can eat it tomorrow.

Just got word a little while ago that the NKU baseball that were scheduled to be played at Champion Window Field next weekend have not been canceled....they will be played at Drury instead....I can only hope that I get to travel with the baseball team since the Drury sports information folks will most likely be having to work the women's regional tournament. The reason why I have said this is because when the NKU athletic teams don't play home games, then my hours go down significantly.........dang you Old Man Winter!!!!!

You're liable to get pulled over. That is, if they can find a clear spot to pull you over into.

Seriously, I wouldn't try it until they go back down to Level II.

Well, I decided to just stay put. I didn't need anything important, but all the breakfast talk got wanting to go to the store. :D However, if I don't make it down to the Home and Garden show tomorrow, I'm going to be mad. :irked:

We haven't had 5 inches of snow total this winter. I like to see a few big snows every winter, for the kids to get out and have fun on their sleds, like I used to. It seems like every snow system has always been north of I-64 all year. We get rain, north of us gets the snow. This makes about 10 years that we haven't had much snow in my area.

You're more than welcome to come up and enjoy ours! In fact, take some home to share with friends and neighbors. You can start with our sidewalk. :D

The streets in F.T are in great shape. It's been a great day for kids to make some cash shoveling or blowing the snow. Our son made over $400 today alone. He has 4 more that called tonight "hiring" him to come by tomorrow to clear them out. Nice weekend for teenage cash if your willing to do it.
