No, Holmes has been the #1 team in NKy since Bondick went down with his injury. Both CovCath losses to Holmes have been on the Holmes floor. Last year CovCath beat Holmes three straight times twice on the CovCath floor and once on a netural floor (LexCath) but lost to Holmes in the Region fianl in OT at Holmes. So if the MO stays the same and both teams meet again at Conner, look for CovCath to come out the winner in that game! At least I hope so...

Schmerge is a really nice player...I like him.

Bondick was steady.

 

Henderson is just so strong at getting to the rim and going up and through people.

Terrance Clark played a really solid game...worked the glass and had a bunch of putbacks.

 

Would not surprise me to see this two meet up again.

Great game. Difference was CCH got out muscled and out rebounded on both offense and defensive boards. Neither team played defense very well. To stop Holmes put backs you have to box them out--it is possible.

Didn't get to see the game but really like some of the CCH kids. How did the Grimes boy do? Are any of the players on either team committed to any colleges yet? Just wondering,would be nice to have some NK players to follow.

But you did forgot to mention last years CovCath over Holmes in double overtime at LexCath, in the 5th/3rd Classic.

 

So in the six games played between these two fine teams over the last two years, three have gone into OT, one went into double OT, and the other two were won in regulation, by a total of 7 points. WOW what a great rivalry, and what outstanding games to watch.

If memory serves, Holmes and CovCath were 1-1 against each other last year after Duran Jefferson returned. I believe the first two were played while he was still hurt.

Arrez Henderson is the real deal. He was the only consistent offensive presence for Holmes tonight, and even defensively I did not think the Bulldog pressure bothered CovCath much EXCEPT when Henderson took over from Avery and manned up on Bondick. Up until that point, CovCath ran their offense, got some good looks, and shot the ball okay, but did miss some open shots. After Arrez moved onto Bondick (did Henley wait to do that so Arrez didn't get into foul trouble? It was probably the right thing to do, since Arrez did pick up two fouls while he was guarding Bondick, and could have picked up his fourth when he ran hard into a pick) I definitely saw Bondick's comfort level drop, and there were several turnovers.

 

Bottom line for Holmes is Arrez is a great defender, but when he plays aggressively he runs the risk of foul trouble and I don't think Holmes beats CovCath or Highlands next week if he's watching from the bench. They need his offense, and they also need their other athletes to pick up their defensive intensity - outside of Henderson I didn't see a lot of the ballyhooed frenetic defense tonight.

 

I have to give CovCath credit, though. When it came to crunch time tonight, down 7 late in the game, they caught fire. Shover was huge late in the game. On the downside for CovCath, though, they played Holmes well and took them into overtime, BUT that was with them executing their gameplan (keeping the score in the 50's in regulation) and shooting 60 % from behind the arc. Can CovCath possibly play any better than that?
