Spanking children can lead to problems later in life, study finds

Featured Replies

I think some people respond to being spanked differently. I was spanked as a child if I did something wrong, and I feel like I'm fine. Some kids might end up going crazy because of it though...

I got whipped daily :D

It has carried over to your adult life now. :p

I say that study stupid! Stickymitts made the best point ever about the school shootings.

Looks like so far this is a unanamous vote FOR spanking and you can count me in on that vote as well.

Seems to me that "not spanking" your children can lead to problems later in life.

Time Out  What a Joke! My dad believed in "time outs" as well though, he sometimes took "time out" of his day to bust my backside..

I might also add that I needed every one of them, didn't think so at the time but the older that I get the smarter my dad was ;).

JMO but a big pct. of the problems that this country has today are the direct result of this type of thinkng.

Spoiled brat kids lead to spoiled brat adults and in turn raise other spoiled brat kids and it goes on and on.

I know that my era of kids were by no stretch of the imagination walking around with "halo's" around our head but there was a line there, a distinct line that we knew that we didn't cross. I believe that we had much more respect for other kids, our parents and other adults and authority figures. I knew that if I got a "spanking" or even in trouble at school then I could just as well expect the same when I got home.

I beleive that we (this country) needs to go back to that type of thinking and let the parents that believe in time out take a time out to really see how their kids are acting, our society today is full of them.

I will say that I fully realize that this is certainly not all kids, there are very good kids out there raised by very good parents. Problem is...we don't hear of those kind of stories enough.

"My name is Oldrambler and I approved this message" :D

Good thing they won't be coercing people into sex, they'll have more time to shoot up a school...:irked:

Honestly, did school shootings take place before the "timeout" era?

One of if not the best post on this thread mitts! Absolutely great point. :thumb:

Thank You.

Children need to be taught that if they are out of line that there will be ramifications. Setting on a couch in timeout doesn't do that quiet like ol' dads belt! My parents, ( I and got plenty whippings from both) always explained to me why and apologized to me for busting my tail. Therefore teaching me both respect, obedience, and love. And I can say today, that I respect both very much, still obey them (even as a grown man), and love them enormously! Spare the Rod, Spoil the Child. Pretty true statement if you ask me!!

Sounds like past generations being spanked led to the same people not spanking their kids. Maybe beatings with switches, belts and what not had more of an effect than some want to admit...

It didn't seem to have any effect on my parents when it came to my brother and I.

This sounds like a headline in about 40 years or so. I'm not going to enjoy doing it, but my children will be spanked.

My kids will get spanked 2 times a day, just to remind em' whos boss :D

j/k

But I will whip my kids, if I ever have em ...

I wasn't spanked much, but both times I was it well deserved. And you can bet I never did it again. I can promise you that when I become a parent I will definately spank my kids if the situation calls for it.

Don't spank them, just let them do whatever they want. They will turn out fine. YEA, RIGHT! Probably should just let them tell us what to do. And we wonder what's wrong with the world today, it doesn't take but a few with that type of opinion and we are all in trouble.

Heck, I spank mine everyday whether they need it or not.

It never hurt me, and IMO this is part of the problem with kids today, they get put in timeout or some other uneffective means of punishment instead of a good ol' fashion expletive busting.

How many people who didn't get spanked will say that they turned out just fine also?

I'm sure there are tons of people who were never touched as children that have turned out just fine.

"Timeouts" or "alternative" forms of punishment have just become a scapegoat, kind of like video games.

"Oh, these violent video games are causing children to act out." "Oh, not spanking your child is what caused them to act out."

Well which one is it? Yes, you may have been spanked as a child and be perfectly ok. And yes, you may not have been spanked and also be perfectly fine. I don't think you can narrow it down to just one thing and say that's the cause.

Will I spank my children? I can't answer that yet. Still up in the air for me.

Could solving a problem with violence (i.e. spanking) cause a child to later in life try and solve another problem with violence and end up in jail? Possibly.
