February 28, 200818 yr I have been in a few of the Ameristop/Shell gas stations, and have found empty shelves and even a few times with just a few gas pumps open. A few people have told me that they are going bankrupt...which includes most if not all in the NKY area. Anyone heard anything on this?
February 28, 200818 yr True I use to sell Ameristop's headquarters back in the summer. This fall my companies quit selling them for this reason. I thought that they had already closed, and I didn't know there where some still some stores open.
February 28, 200818 yr I think one of the things that has to be killing that brand of store is the move to make everyone prepay at the pump. In short, they make their money on the overpriced items inside the store but since they force people to pay at the pump many people never go inside.

Very True Guru.........The profits on soda, and candy are almost double. I have always been told that there is no profit on gas (for atleast the store owners). BP, Shell, and Marathon are showing record profits right now, while everyone else is squeezing their pocket books. I have parked my f-250 diesel because I refuse to pay $3.50 a gallon.
February 28, 200818 yr I think it's great to know that we the people are not buying things at these places being they cost so much. I remember hearing so big shot talking on 700 am that one of the best ways to fight the big oil company was to use the gas station for gas only nothing else.

That's not true- that hurts the store owners. The oil companies get their money when they either sell directly to their franchises or to a Jobber Dealer who sells in Independent Gas Stations. In addition to the oil companies getting rich, the Jobbers have gotten rich as well (essentially gas distributors). I worked in the oil industry. I would be more than happy to educate anyone on how it works. Especially since they outsourced my entire department to "save money" while recording record profits. I'm not bitter at all. :fire:
February 29, 200818 yr My family owned a gas station in the mid 90's before the gas surge. They made a 5 cents a gallon off gas. They did much much better off Candy and made a living off car repairs. Unfortunately for them, most stations are doing away with auto service. Keeping the people out of the stores will kill them at this point, but drive offs really hurt now too. No way win situation.

Thanks for letting me know how wrong they were. I am still glad to see we overall might be getting a little smarter when spending money on tyhings that are so over-priced.

Don't know anything about bankruptcy, but I've almost 100% quit going to Shell stations up here because they are either out of gas or out of products inside of the store.
February 29, 200818 yr Independence's Ameristop closed a while back. I saw this as well. Thankfully the Gold Star right next door is doing just fine! :thumb:
February 29, 200818 yr I got gas at the Shell station in Dayton last night. It was .05 cheaper than the BP in Bellevue. I'm surprise that the BP in Bellvue is still open. They have closed a number of them in NKY and Cin area.
