Thet 16 years later one thing one player did leads to almost the entire fan base still hating a team.. You don't think that can happen elsewhere? Ask any Red Sox fan (real fan, not bandwagon supporter) what Bucky Dent's real name is. Also you have to keep in mind that one reason that UK fans have in their head that their is a rivalry there have been a number of memorable NCAA Tourney games between the two teams. Then there's this: Duke is simply the most hated team in the NCAA. There has been more than one poll done on this and it comes up Duke every time. There will naturally be more venom for a program like Duke. There's probably an inordinate amount from the UK faithful but it is understandable given that not only did that Duke team beat one of the most beloved UK teams of all time, but the UK crowd gets reminded of it all the time during the baseketball season with replays of the shot.

February 21, 200818 yr The story made some really good points. One thing that stood out was the point about some kids being McDonalds All Americans just because they were being recruited by Duke which was a reason for their fall out after college and lack of success in the NBA compared to others. Duke is Duke though. If losing 6 or 7 games a year and getting knocked out in the sweet 16 every year is a downfall, well they much be doing something right.
February 21, 200818 yr That isn't even close to being the argument... That was kind of a random statement.:laugh: The point I intended on making was about the UK/Duke "rivalry." I personally think it's stupid. We don't play them that often and one time they hit a buzzer beater on us. I'm sure other teams had done it before them and other teams will do it in the future. It's a part of the game. I would take that loss every day of the week versus a 40 point loss to Vandy or a couple of the other terrible loses we've had this year. If you get enough fans of one team together, your going to have your idiots. That why we (UK fans) look so ridiculous on this site some times. There are too many of us. I'm sure that if you were to go to any other message board where the fans were passionate about their team, you'd find your fair share of dumb people and ignorant ideas and statements. It's not just UK.

After being up for close to 36 hours I start to not make sense. But, in saying "like what?" that you don't believe that other posters on this board don't bring UK into threads that have nothing to do with them ? Because although it is very irrelevant to this thread, I could find some examples if you wanted me to.

I can only speak for myself and that is that I don't even speak of UK in Duke threads unless it being pushed onto me..Like I said before, I'm a Duke fan, but cheer on UK in all their games, even been to a few.
