Top Offensive backs from NKY for 2008 season

Featured Replies

Agree with most of what you said and I enjoyed watching him the past two seasons. However, he will need to work on pass catching. I really believe it's a concentration issue with him and not a physical one. Brock is very quick, a lot quicker than people think. He is better running off tackle because he does have a lot of moves. I didn't think he or Marty did so well on sweeps this past season, although you never knew what type of offense you were going to see week to week.

He also needs to learn how to control his speed too. He appears out-of-control too often which hampers his ability to cut back and break tackles.

I agree.

After watching Spring ball at Highlands, I recommend you remember this name: CLINT CRAWFORD! The young man has outstanding speed and very shifty moves. People are going to "load up" on Josh Connor and Clint is going to take them to the house!

Not saying that Clint cant do that. But my experience tells me that if people are going to key on Connor then its to the Airwaves. Play-Action baby, cant wait to see the Birds play that cat and mouse game with cheating LBs and DBs. This Offense this year could look like some of the HHS O's of old say maybe the 1996 or even the 1981 State Champ teams. :thumb:

Roger Herthel from Lloyd is the top returning wide reciever in NKY.

what number is roger herthel, i don't quite remember him from last year

Because.... being #3 in scoring to 2 SR's (Farris and Molony...they had 22 td's each...Josh had 21...28 if you count playoffs!) and 4th in rushing yards with 1181 yds in 153 carries...1719 yds if playoffs included...oh, and the 3 SR's ahead of him all had 200+ carries. I'd say he's the leader in the clubhouse for returning rushers. Not that Mr. Teipel and friends aren't good backs...but JC will be in the Mr. KY football conversations!

Wow! Now that is what I call a loyal fan! Farris is probably as close as anyone in NKY will come for the next 10 yrs.

Kelly(s) from NCC & Simpson from SK. But watch the potential numbers for the little guy from CCHS, Johnson. People laugh at his 135 pound frame, calling him too little, but don't be surpised to see this young man put up big numbers in 6A this coming year. The kicker is, his own coaches may be worried about his size, as they will likely start the season with him in the slot, but will have to put him in the back field and take advantage of his incredible footwork.

Mike Murphy -- IMO one of the best. I played that run run run offense and we did pretty good.

He was number 3, Roger had 61 catches for 689 yards...

As to the bolded part, you're kidding me right ? Farris was a nice back, but let's not turn him into the second coming. I'm not sure Josh Connor is much if any behind him and Josh plays for a team that wins state championships, which helps considerably in the Mr. Football voting. The only thing that may hurt Josh in the Mr. Football voting is the lack of carries that Josh gets this year. And if fewer carries means a state title for the Birds, I think Josh will be fine with it. As for the next ten years crack, you may want to start assessing some of the other Birds players (particularly in the upcoming junior class) before you make such statements.

Farris definitely did more for his team than Josh. Considering that Farris put up incredible numbers hobbled from the very beginning of the season through-out, I'd put my money on him. His size plus speed, added that he is a D-1 athlete tells me enough.

My money is on Josh just because where he plays. With the Super Junior class coming through, Josh will get more looks at playing D1 Football this year than Mr. Farris could ever dream of. Sometimes it's not what you know, it's more like WHO you know!!!! Sorry, success equals exposure. Period!!!

Josh is a good kid and a very good athlete, I know the family, so you won't get any shots at him fom me. But D1? Time will just have to tell. He will put up great numbers just like any tailack does in the Highlands system. But to be put in the same category as Farris will be quite a challenge for the young man. I would counter your last comment by stating that "Mr. Farris" is an exceptional athlete, who is successful, and has received the exposure due him. PERIOD!!!

If Josh could get 20- 30 maybe sometimes 40 carries a game, he could pass the numbers put up by Mr. Farris. However anyone that follows the Birds know this scenario is very remote. The Birds don't feature one back, and the starters are usually pulled early 3rd quarter.
