Top Offensive backs from NKY for 2008 season

Featured Replies

Because?? Cases could be made for all backs listed. Bankemper was the so-called premier back returning for BHS but Tiepel led the team in rushing.

Because.... being #3 in scoring to 2 SR's (Farris and Molony...they had 22 td's each...Josh had 21...28 if you count playoffs!) and 4th in rushing yards with 1181 yds in 153 carries...1719 yds if playoffs included...oh, and the 3 SR's ahead of him all had 200+ carries. I'd say he's the leader in the clubhouse for returning rushers. Not that Mr. Teipel and friends aren't good backs...but JC will be in the Mr. KY football conversations!

Connor Brock from Dixie Heights will move from the slot to tailback in 08' filling the shoes of a very respectable tough running back M. Maloney. Watch out for the #26 he has incredible speed w/ability to catch the ball out of the backfield

Agree with most of what you said and I enjoyed watching him the past two seasons. However, he will need to work on pass catching. I really believe it's a concentration issue with him and not a physical one. Brock is very quick, a lot quicker than people think. He is better running off tackle because he does have a lot of moves. I didn't think he or Marty did so well on sweeps this past season, although you never knew what type of offense you were going to see week to week.

Two things could hurt Conner. The first is the style of offense that Dale runs. Even if it remains a run dominated offense, Dale does a really good job of mixing up the ball carriers. He's not a Boone County play caller where the tailback gets 20 plus carries a game. With Ollie and Clint available to run the ball, Dale will again mix up who gets the ball. Conner is good, but honestly I think Ollie, not once again healthy, is every bit as good. And Clint has such speed and quickness, its hard not go get the ball in his hands at least 5-10 carries a game. Plus, I don't think we'll run the ball near as much this year. I'd not be surprised to see us pass the ball more than we run it. And don't pass out when you read this, but I'll be fine with that as I think that will give us the best chances of winning state this year. Whether its Guidugli or Bardo at the qb (and I'm no where close to saying its Guidugli's job to lose), Dale is going to use their strength in his play calling and for both of them its passing the ball.

The other thing that could hurt Conner is if we are up a lot by half in a lot of games, Conner will be sitting out a lot of second halves.

Very hard to get Mr. Football stats if those two things happen.

But JC is the type of back that will get 8 touches / 3 td's / 200+ yds. Plus Oliver and Clint will see alot of the D side of the ball!

In the state final. Conner, 27, Cecil 26

Well I guess if you rush it 60 times, someone's gonna get 25:thumb:

Wasn't TB nicked up this past season?

You ask when was the last time a HHS rb got 25 carries. I gave you the answer. Thats all.

Austin Pugh-Conner, Hes a fast Powerfull back. Work horse for the cougars. Also Charles Qunioo-Boone, similar back. I expect both of them to have great Jr. Seasons.

Agree whole-heartedly. Look for him to be in top 3 or 4 for total rushing yards in NKY in 2008. Good kid, too.

David was probably solely responsible for Highlands having a 9-1 record in 1980!!!! That's when it was almost impossible to make the playoffs unless you won every sub-district game. 1 team went unlike today where 4 teams go. I'm confident with today's playoff format Highlands would have 18 trophy's

Who won the other sub-district that year?

Who won the other sub-district that year?

Nice try buddy!!!! You guys won it right

Ahh, that's right. :thumb:

Now I am having problems remembering how the little Cougars did that year against the #1 team in the state Newport Wildcats. Anyone??

Simon Kenton has tons of talented running backs and full backs.

After watching Spring ball at Highlands, I recommend you remember this name: CLINT CRAWFORD! The young man has outstanding speed and very shifty moves. People are going to "load up" on Josh Connor and Clint is going to take them to the house!
