If a public school gets fined, then where does the money come from? A general fund that is essentially state funded (tax payers) or an athletic booster club fund? I feel that a severe penalty should also be enforced, however, when you propose to punish coaches also this may get very nasty. Coaches are not paid that well and a lot of times recruiting goes on behind thier backs. This would almost entirely discourage a lot of people from becoming coaches if they stand the possibility of public dissemation and legal fees that could accure during such a process. Everyone knows that if a school is alleged to have violated any recruiting sanctions then they would be guilty before the presumption of innocence was ever mentioned. Basically this is a very fine line.

So what draws your attention to them if they don't do something special? The word recruit means to activily persue. So your telling me that a student with a middle school GPA of 2.3 and a PSAT score of 13 is welcome at your school?

JCPS can and do throw kids out of their school and send them to an alternative high school. While not all public schools may have an option like this, some publics do have that option, so saying that "public schools can not throw kids out" is not true.

 

Additionally, yes, private schools do recruit students with 2.3 GPAs in middle school (although the PSAT doesn't apply since they take that test in high school). There were plenty of kids who were far from being mental giants but I would like to think that the school prepared them as best as possible for their future. Part of St. X's educational philosophy is to "admit students of varying abilities who seek the benefit of Catholic education." I would imagine that most private schools have similar statements in their missions.

You're missing the point. JCPS as a whole may not throw them out, but those students who are placed in the alternative programs are out of the Males, Manuals, Ballards, Easterns, Senecas, Westerns, Athertons, etc. So those schools "wash their hands" of those students.

How is Male or Manual or Eastern still "responsible for giving them a free, appropriate, public education" if the student is at Liberty High School after being thrown out of the former school? JCPS is responsible, but Male doesn't have to worry about the disruptions, Eastern doesn't have to worry about the drug problem or Manual doesn't have to worry about that student's academic shortcomings once they're no longer enrolled, the same as St. X or Trinity. In summary, a student being thrown out of a JCPS school and going to Liberty is the same as a St. X or Trinity student being thrown out and attending a JCPS school.

You are correct to say the students still are entiltled to a public education, but I think you missed the point Buddy and I have previously made. Students can be removed from particular schools. Buddy mentioned an alternative for Jeff. Co, and I mentioned Central Alternative in Lexington.

If any coach, public or private do that, I could be a violation. Any school can give out information about thier school that describes the entire High School expereince, and from what I have been told by members of BGP, the Jefferson County Public schools have a type of open house, and part of the information at those open houses is the sucess of athletic programs.

I do not care how Private schools get their kids, the problem is that public and private do not have the same limitations on kids coming to their school. Example:

Kid a moves in with his sister due to mom and dad having some trouble into a new public district, wants to play football, khsaa says no, he has to sit out a year. Same kid enrolls in the local private school eligible day 1. That is not fair period to kids or schools.

I find it very interesting on just how some think based on what kind of school they are from. Private/Public. In general BGP members who are from private schools think everything is a bed of roses when this issue is brought up. Members from public schools feel that the system is unfair. Granted not all feel this way but I think the majority feel that way. It kind of reminds me of the Repulicans and the Democrates and hoe they vote along party lines.

Example:I remember a vote that they also ignored not so long ago.

 

My gripe is that publics have to play against privates when it is this easy to do these type things, then when it happens we just have to live with it. And this doen't happen in the public school. NO SCHOLARSHIPS.......
