Washington Co and Mason County had better be courting their coaches hard.

The Mason Co. 'officials' arent' smart enough to know that! Coach B has wonderful community, fan, and parent support. The 'powers that be' won't realize what they have until he's gone.

I think this situation mirrors another coaching hire. Back when Guy Morris left UK for Baylor, UK went after Bill Parcells, who was the sexy hire at the time. Yet, he was unproven at the college level and maybe never truley wanted to go to UK. They then regrouped and went out and hired a proven coach that knows how to rebuild programs in Brooks.

 

Boyle went after the sexy hire this time in Guy. Even though he wanted too much money, and was unproven at the high school level. Hopefully Boyle's search turns out as good as UK's did

 

These are my thoughts too. Morriss may have been a great hire but I think it would have been a sexy hire.

 

In the end, I just want to see Boyle be successful because they are serious about their football.

Time can become a factor now, as I am sure off-season conditioning programs are into effect and a lot of good coaches want to get their offensive/defensive philosophies down before spring practice starts. If they go with the current system that the Rebels have now, and hire outside of their current staff, won't there be a brand new system installed? That does cause some sort of setbacks, right?

I think Boyle still has the time to make a quality hire. As for the Morris situation, I think the decline of the offer was the right thing for Morris and Boyle County.

 

The main criteria, IMHO, should be the credentials a candidate brings exemplifying their ability to strengthen, condition and lead young men through challenges and success. Whether that includes "championship" experience is of limited value.

I wouldn't be surprised if Morriss came back in a few years and decided to volunteer-coach somewhere. He sounds still interested in coaching in the central Kentucky area, mostly because of his 100-acre farm located on the outskirts of Perryville. I'd watch the possibility of Boyle, Danville, or even at the collegiate level at Centre. He'll be back, I have no doubt.

It depends on the difference in the system. No one coach has a monopoly on a system. I mean we are talking about conditioning and strength right now, not a summer practice and workout regimen. If anything a new hire from outside the system might bring "new blood" to the routine in terms of kids and attitudes.

 

It seems to me that Chuck Smith was hired from outside the system and his first team went something like 7-4 and were in the playoffs.

Go back and reread previous posts (even the ones in this thread) and the articles on AM News and you will find you don't have the full picture or the correct one. :thumb:

 

Thanks-My Bad- I always liked Morris at UK because he was just a "football" guy. I knew some of the kids and they liked him because he was always straight with them, and true to his word.

I am not completely sure. I really don't know his name but I think he has ties to the area and that he has turned Washington County around. Seems like he was brought up for the Mercer job after Jaggers was let go.

Washington County has a good football team?

Go ask a kid in High school right now who Guy Morris is...I'd say that maybe 1 out of every 300 could tell you, and that’s a stretch.

 

Three years into the job, Morris would have ceased being UK former HC, and just become another High School HFC.

I think Morris would have done fine @ Boyle. French Has done a good job but I think Morris would have done a goood job as well.
