Does anyone think Coach Morriss turning Boyle down is actually good for Boyle?

Or is there no upside to Morriss telling Boyle no?

I, for one, wondered how long Morriss would stay at Boyle if he took the job and I am sure I was not alone. Uncertainty can be very detrimental to a football program.

Agree? Disagree?

The way coaches jump programs these days there is always some uncertainty.. A 4 or 5 year commitment would have been great.. But I still feel there would be more positives than negatives with the Morriss hire no matter how long he stayed..

I dont see how it could be good that he turned it down. The entire state heard they were talking about $60,000 a year. If I was a coach and interviewed for the job now, I would not be taking the normal salary for teaching/coaching that all other state schools are offering. I know he came with major D1 experience but a good high school coach is a good high school coach, D1 or not. They will have a hard time convincing someone now that $6000 for football and teaching pay is a good deal. I could be wrong but I just don't see how they will be able to seriously talk salary without this coming up. Time will tell. Plus I can't imagine that the guys on staff currently are happy that they have been completely overlooked and now they will become the next best options. Just seems they have an uphill climb to me.

In the short term it would have pumped some life back into the program with possibly more kids coming out, tons of media coverage, and maybe some renewed confidence.

Although Morris did turn this job down, principal Elmer Thomas is a super guy and will make the right hire for the program anyhow...

No, I don't think Guy turning Boyle down is good. If he had taken the job, then it could have been a great situation (provided he stayed there 5-7 years).

Possible hinderances now:

1) Delaying the process - Boyle may have lost a couple of highly qualified coaches who have already been offered other jobs. :walk:

2) $ - Boyle may have "shown their hand" a bit and not have as much leverage where salary is concerned. :sssh:

3) Excitement - can/will the Boyle community be excited about "the coach we got because Guy Morriss declined'

I dunno... just a few thoughts.

No, not a good thing.

Because of all the above statements and the kids just want a good coach. What kid doesn't? Many of the kids did not even know who Guy Morriss was, up until now. The name may have sounded familiar and that's it.

I, personally, wish he was never considered the position and if he was, I wish we never knew.

With a program like Boyle Co... they won't have a problem attracting a quality coach - even for less $$$ than they were willing to pay Morris.

I think he did the right thing for Boyle County Football. I personally don't think he would of stayed very long if something attractive would of come along. How would you feel if you had a 7th or 8th grader planning on going to Danville. All of a sudden Boyle makes this hire and the father absolutely loves Guy Morriss and sends his kid to Boyle. 3 years pass and Guy Morriss is making some noise and attracks another College offer that he can't refuse. Maybe even a local college such as Centre. Who knows!!! anything can happen. So how does the Dad react when Boyle hires Charlie from the local Tire Plant and his kid loses a year of football because he wants to transfer back to Danville. I think Boyle needs to dig deep into it's system and hire someone within. Someone who is going to be loyal to Boyle County.

No you weren't alone. I wondered on here if Morriss might be taking the job only for one year. We'll never know of course; likewise we'll never know if him turning the job down will actually work out well for Boyle.

On another point raised on BGP, I wouldn't think that the fact they were willing (evidently) to pay Morriss big dollars will have any effect on what they end up paying the coach they hire. Very few high school coaches can say they coached at the D1 level and thus should be paid the same.

But when the coach asks for dollars for something in the program the admin CANNOT say the money isn't there.

Nothing against any of the remaining coaches at Boyle, but I really hope that they go outside of the system and hire a coach. I think we need fresh ideas and fresh ways of doing things.

I can't see anything wrong with offering Morriss the job and I don't see anything wrong with him turning it down. I think that whole process has brought an excitement to the school and the town that has been lacking for quite some time now. I also feel that with all the media coverage of this past week it may have brought the job opportunity to someone's attention and make them take a second look at the job for themselves.

I think the Super and Thomas took a shot at getting Morriss and you can't blame anyone of the two for doing that. I think that both of them know what kind of coach they need and want and I think they will continue on the right course to make that happen.

Sure they can. The extra dollars were outside the school and those aren't being offered to just anybody. They are not connected to the school administration at all and were the offerings of individual business opportunities. It's called the free market and capitalism.

Who is Boyle going to negoitate with that has collegiate coaching experience and an NFL pro career?

I thought it was a great experience. It brought the light to the Boyle program and the hire that didn't exist before. Now it exists for whoever they approach next.

Would Morris have stayed long? I don't think so but don't know for sure. Anytime he spent in the program would have been a help to the kids he coached and the assistants he left.

I'm glad it happened, wished he could have come, and now I'm ready to move on and hope that maybe one candidate in particular would be interested in the job.
