Lexington Christian fined over financial aid to athletes

I think what bothers most people is that if a public school committed the same violation, the penalty would have been much more severe.

I agree cracked me up too. Public schools don't give break the rules.:p;):D:jump::sssh::thumb::lol:

There are some publics out there who will lure student athletes to their schools... And yes if KHSAA found out about it I'm sure these certain schools would never get to participate in championships ever again.

Back to the aforementioned tar and feathering, public flogging and banishment to the unexplored frontiers.

Just moved to the area within the last year.. don't know much about northern KY, I am only going on what I've seen throughout central Ky.

I've stayed out of this thread for the most part because I've enjoyed watching the all to predictable circling of vultures proclaiming how this proves once and for all that ALL private schools are not complying with the rules because this one was sanctioned.

I have laughed at the assertions that had this been a public school how much harsher the penalty would have been. I'm willing to bet that 9 out of 10 that are calling fro LCA to be banned from post-season play for a period of time would be the first ones on here decrying how unfair it is to penalize the SAs that weren't involved with the illegal activity had the school in question been a public school.

My only response to the substance of what has occurred is that if LCA was found to be in violation of the rules then they should have been sanctioned and they were. Maybe they should have been punished more harshly, who knows. I think that they were at best guilty of a serious lack of good judgement. I also think that because of this the mindset that ALL private schools cheat will be impressed further into the minds of the short sighted people that believe it.

This may just be the funniest thing I have ever read regarding the public vs. private issue.

Can you imagine the wailing and gnashing of teeth that would go on if the KHSAA ever tried to permanently remove a school from post-season play?

I agree. I think the Prop 20 conversation had dropped and this will fire it up once again.

It might have been best for all for LCA to get a major punishment and keep the Prop 20 conversation squelched.

I am afraid that this is going to rev it back up.

I won't say all private schools cheat.

Let me say why does Trinity or St. X need to cheat? Look at facilities. By far best in the state. No need the school recruits itself. Just by winning and having the best facilities.

As for other schools trying to get to that level we have had 3 private schools with in the last 5 years get caught. Holy Cross of Lou. , Lex Cath and now LCA.

My argument is make stiffer penalties for all involved. Ban players, schools and boosters and this will stop. These fines are a waste of time. Once the fine is paid the pain is gone.

I know of public schools that try the samething. Currently we have an 8th grader is being approached by a rival school. I seen this happen at the last home basketball game. So I know it goes on. I just want the wimpy KHSAA to step up to the plate.

They love punishing kids when they transfer. So why won't the get the gts to do it when it is legit?

Highlands has never ever been accused or investigated by the KHSAA for recruiting if that's what you meant by your post. If they were found guilty of illegally luring students to Highlands (i.e. recruiting), I'd expect the sanctions to be as severe as the "crime" necessitated. Nothing more; nothing less.

The Mitchell case did not involve any allegations of improperly luring a kid to Highlands. Highlands was sanctioned by the KHSAA because the school erroneously (at least in the eyes of the KHSAA) took the position that a judicial order trumped the ruling of the KHSAA; a position that every attorney I've spoken to (except the KHSAA's legal counsel) about the issue, including the State's Dept of Education's general counsel and a couple of judges, agrees with by the way. I remain convinced that if Highlands choose to appeal the issue to the courts, Highlands would have prevailed. They choose not to because by then Mueller had already served "his sentence", the fine was insubstantial in the grand scheme of the legal fees the district would have had to pay to take the issue to court, we knew that we had done the right thing and while the forfeits are at times "painful", the school was not interested in having a very public dispute with the KHSAA. We've been in good standing with the KHSAA for a long time and have never had a difference of opinion on anything other than this matter.

By the way, the only thing that the KHSAA hung their hat on in denying eligibility to Mitchell was the fact that the Mitchells had failed to sell their former home in Florence. Since that decision, the KHSAA has on several occasions started granting eligibility even if the former residence was not sold. They've come to their senses. There are many, many legit reasons not to want to sell former residences. The KHSAA didn't even explore why the Mitchells didn't want to sell their former residence; rather they took a hard and fast position that a move is never bona fide if the former home is not sold; a position that they no longer follow. Just a FWIW.
